LETTER

AND THE OSCAR…

The new issue of Fantastic Man is done and off to print! And since it’s exactly our 20 year anniversary this coming April, we’ve made an extra luscious issue, with several amazing characters on more than a few different covers. We cannot wait to unveil the spectacle… ■ You can already enjoy our profile of ADRIEN BRODY online. Indeed, he did win his second Oscar, for his amazing role in ‘The Brutalist’ (the film is long, but every second worth seeing). Hurry over to our website for this intriguing encounter between ADRIEN and our writer CHRIS HEATH. At some point the actor gets so heated up about “finding light through darkness” that suddenly the lights flash on in the hotel bar where they’re sitting. ■ I must have said this before, but I’m particularly thrilled with CHRIS’s contribution since his cover stories in ‘The Face’ in the mid-90s inspired me to become a journalist in the first place. We all need a guiding light. ■ The photos of ADRIEN BRODY wearing fashion by THOM BROWNE were made by ILYA LIPKIN and PAU AVIA.

NEW BUTT

This week sees the birth of a new BUTT, which comes with two different covers, above. It’s a truly SIZZLING issue! ■ On the cover is SIR KARIM from Amsterdam shot by GUSTAVO GARCÍA-VILLA, there’s a beautiful story of semi-fiction by RAOUL DE JONG from Rotterdam, hot series from Tokyo and Melbourne, an entire interview about hair with Spanish bombshell actor OMAR AYUSO – where to begin? Also, an interview with LILLY WACHOWSKI of ‘The Matrix’ fame. If you’re in Madrid next Thursday, 20 March, come dance with BUTT. And a big thanks to Bottega Veneta for facilitating our work.

DAWSON

For this 36th issue of BUTT, I interviewed painter DAVID DAWSON, who I got introduced to at Frieze Art Fair a while ago as I was admiring one of his amazing, idyllic landscapes at Galleria Lorcan O’Neill. Big fan! ■ If you know DAVID’s work – a glorious take on the outdoors – you may not be surprised that he loves cruising in the park. He lives in the house of his former boss, LUCIAN FREUD, where we had tea and cake as we talked all things fit to print (or not). It’s in BUTT no. 36, page 90-99.

HIGHER COLLAGE

Ukrainian-Danish artist SERGEI SVIATCHENKO was in town the other day, invited by JOACHIM BAAN. You may be aware of SERGEI’s long-running sartorial blog, ‘Close Up And Private’. ■ The 72-year-old artist has been voted ‘Best Dressed Dane’ a few times, but it’s his art – collage and painting – that’s most fabulous about him. One of his mesmerising works is a complete collage remake of the winter 2018 issue of Fantastic Man, above. It makes for a marvelous art object – we’ll share some more later on our digital channels.

LONDON

I’ll briefly be in London next week on a frenzied art whirlwind, hoping to see:
■ LEIGH BOWERY! at Tate Modern
■ PETER HUJAR at Raven Row
■ ‘The Face’ at the National Portrait Gallery
■ JAKE GREWAL and PREM SAHIB at Studio Voltaire
Let me know if I’m missing something – just hit reply. Also if you just want to say hi or feel like sharing your thoughts on the current terrifying state of the world. What a mess.

Be nice,
