Key content this month - COVID-19 vaccination policy update - MATES in Construction partnership extended - Accessibility Symposium - Building Momentum events and webinars - Noggin upgrade - Infrastructure Acceleration Fund update As you may already be aware, we have recently updated our vaccination policy, removing the requirement for people entering Kāinga Ora owned or controlled sites or offices to be double vaccinated. Going forward, vaccination will only be required when it is mandated via a third party. This decision has been made based on the latest data available on transmission rates, among other considerations. The vaccination clause won’t appear in future public housing build contracts and consultancy agreements. While the wording remains in our current contracts, it will no longer be valid. While vaccination is no longer required at Kāinga Ora, we must remain vigilant in our response to the pandemic and continue to follow Ministry of Health guidance. We will review our risk assessment if the country’s response to COVID-19 changes significantly and will continue to keep you informed if we are considering any potential changes to the vaccination policy. Thank you for your responsiveness and willingness to adapt to our policy, as well as traffic light setting changes, while continuing to help us deliver more warm and dry homes for New Zealanders. MATES in Construction partnership extended We are pleased to have re-cemented our partnership with the MATES in Construction suicide prevention programme for another two years. The new agreement is a recognition of the commitment by Kāinga Ora to improve mental wellness in the construction industry and the significant support for MATES by our build partners and sub-contractors. The agreement will also see the MATES programme expanded to include our Construction Consultancy Partners when the Kāinga Ora supplier panels are confirmed later this year. Kāinga Ora Housing Accessibility Symposium 2022 On 5 July 2022 (9.30am – 12.30pm), Kāinga Ora will host a virtual Housing Accessibility Symposium. This year the focus of our Housing Accessibility Symposium will be centred around the review and refresh of the current Kāinga Ora Accessibility Policy. This event is expected to provide an opportunity for our partners, customers and stakeholders from across government, and the disability sector, to discuss the next iteration of our Kāinga Ora Accessibility Policy. We would greatly appreciate contributions and insights from our construction sector partners in this important discussion. If you would like to attend, please email: accessibility@kaingaora.govt.nz with the names and email addresses of those interested and we will reply with registration details. To learn more about accessibility at Kāinga Ora, and our current accessibility commitments and work programmes, please visit: Accessibility at Kāinga Ora :: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities (kaingaora.govt.nz). Kāinga Ora is also producing a succinct guidance document entitled Masterplanning for Universal Design to sit in the suite of existing Kāinga Ora design guidelines. This will help us to design and deliver inclusive homes and communities. The document will be easy to understand while firmly based on best practice and with references to appropriate details, standards and legislation. Crucially, the document will set out how to measure how inclusive an environment is. It will be publicly available to inform national best practice, and is expected to be completed later this year. This work includes house removal, land remediation and infrastructure upgrades, and as of May 2022 we have now enabled land to support more than 4,000 homes since our large-scale projects began. This extensive civil construction work is a critical part of preparing superlots for sale to our development partners, and detail of the latest release of superlots is included in this bulletin. Oranga superlot release Development partners on the Kāinga Ora Invitation to Participate (ITP) list will soon have the opportunity to purchase land in Stage 4 of our Oranga Development. Expected to be released in late July 2022, the offer is for six superlots comprising a total area of 1.7ha and supporting a yield of approximately 93 homes. 40% of the homes are to be built to KiwiBuild/affordable housing requirements. Questions relating to this release can be emailed to landsales.UDD@kaingaora.govt.nz. Infrastructure Acceleration Fund update A wide range of proposals for much-needed housing developments around the country are through to the final stage of the bid for funding from the Infrastructure Acceleration Fund (IAF). The $1 billion contestable fund is designed to help councils fund infrastructure to enable housing development in areas of need. The IAF has received great interest from councils, iwi and developers across Aotearoa. Following a robust evaluation process, 35 proposals have now been invited to progress to the final negotiation stage. This stage will see further due diligence undertaken and both funding and housing outcome agreements negotiated before funding can be confirmed. Early indications from the proposals suggest up to 35,000 dwellings could be enabled through the IAF, with approximately 60 percent of proposals for development outside of New Zealand’s main urban centres. We look forward to announcing successful agreements from July onwards. Kāinga Ora commits to Sustainable Transport Outcomes Kāinga Ora is demonstrating its leadership approach to sustainability and wellbeing outcomes with its new Sustainable Transport Outcomes (STO). This document sets out clear strategic outcomes for transport within Kāinga Ora developments and communities, with a firm focus on ensuring that active and public transport modes are truly viable for everyone. Civils works completed in Mangere West project Civils works on the Mangere West A project – stage 1 (west side of Tararata Creek), which forms part of the wider Mangere Development large-scale project, were completed in May 2022.
