Click here ALC is moving to new premises in 2025 Due to the sale of the North Adelaide property, ALC has been advised that it will need to vacate its premises no later than the end of June next year. As the new owners require vacant possession, and the College has been instructed to take minimal possessions with it to the new city building at 139 Frome Street (pictured above), it is seeking new homes for goods which are surplus to its needs. These goods include office/classroom furniture (desks, chairs, filing cabinets) and equipment (white boards, televisions), worship resources, musical instruments, various kitchen goods and recreational items including a billiard table (needs repairs) and table tennis table. If you are interested in obtaining any of these items, please email the Business Manager, Judy Baker at business@alc.edu.au by 28 November 2024. At this stage, new premises are yet to be found for ALC’s library. If you are aware of a building in Adelaide which might be suitable (needs to have reinforced flooring) and which is either currently available for lease or sale or about to come on the market, please email principal@alc.edu.au. Cherished staff member retires ALC staff recently farewelled their colleague and friend, Bronwyn Wilkinson. Bronwyn, who was employed as the College’s Community Caregiver in 2007, spent the past seventeen years (the last two in a voluntary capacity) providing both emotional and practical support to staff, students and their immediate family members. We thank Bronwyn for the caring manner in which she carried out her role over so many years and wish her God’s richest blessings for the future. Honorary research appointment Dr Pam Zweck has recently been awarded the status of Honorary Postdoctoral Research Associate for ALC by the University of Divinity. Her research has been assessed as a “major contribution in the field of Reformation studies”. Pam's doctoral research has also led to further study in the area of Lucas Cranach and Albrecht Dürer and their relationship to the Reformation and she has a book based on her doctoral thesis due to be published in 2026. Commencing with an eight-day intensive from 28 January 2025, this accelerated pathway to ordination for mature-age candidates has been developed by ALC with the support of the LCANZ’s College of Bishops. The program consists of two years of intensive study and fieldwork scheduled over 48 weeks of each year, followed by a period of in-service transition. For participants who have previously completed relevant study, the program will be customised to reduce their study load. Unit fees do apply, however, financial assistance is available in the form of fee scholarships, grants and congregational sponsorship. A small stipend will also be available to those accepted as candidates for ordination. Zoom Information Sessions Thursday, 7 November at 4.00 pm (ACST) Snapshot of activities in September/October Dr Andrew Pfeiffer recently led a three-day Lutheran Identity seminar in Kuala Lumpur which was attended by 35 participants (pictured above) from churches across Singapore and Malaysia. The seminar was organised by former ALC student and director of the Lutheran Study Centre in Sabah, Dr Wilfred John. At the conclusion of the seminar, Dr Pfeiffer was presented with a gift of appreciation. In September, ALC hosted a joint research seminar which was held in collaboration with the Uniting College of Leadership and Theology and St Barnabas Theological College. The seminar program included a speaker from each of the Colleges. Ronda Mugford presented on behalf of ALC. The title of her research paper was 'Aufnehmen’ – Identity and Inheritance. During the recent gathering of General Pastor's Conference which was held in Adelaide from 29 September to 2 October, Principal, Dr Tim Stringer provided an update on ALC. Using the analogy of a heavily pruned fig tree to describe ALC's current situation, he shared his hope that in time, ALC would once again flourish and bear much fruit. Dr Stringer further encouraged pastors to contact him should they have any questions about the College. ALC’s Academic Dean, Dr Merryn Ruwoldt delivered the key-note presentation at the Lutheran Education (LEVNT) leader's symposium held in Melbourne from 30 September to 2 October. The title of her presentation was 'Theological perspectives on spiritual leadership.' On the Sunday afternoon of General Convention of Synod, the Chair of the ALC Board, Mr Andrew Long presented the ALC report to delegates. His presentation included an overview of the educational activities undertaken by the College during the Synodical period and advice that ALC would be operating from new premises from mid 2025. In concluding the report, he acknowledged the efforts of both the Board and ALC staff and thanked them for their service.
