Ngaree Ah Kit Media Release Rental subsidy scheme supports NT's key workers22 April 2024 The Territory Labor Government is supporting workers with the cost of living by extending a rental subsidy scheme for another year through a $3 million investment in Budget 2024. The Rent Choice Rental Subsidy Scheme strengthens home affordability for eligible key workers and low income earners. Designed and administered by Tier 1 Community Housing Provider, Venture Housing, the scheme provides access to safe, secure and affordable housing in the private rental market. Available to those seeking to rent a home or extend an existing lease through licensed real estate agents, the scheme offers subsidies of up to $12,000 for up to 12 months depending on income, household size, and location. In addition to supporting key workers, the extended scheme will also support households exiting other affordable rental programs, such as those transitioning out of the National Rental Affordability Scheme. People living in Darwin, Palmerston, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs are eligible for the subsidy. Eligible workers in priority industries include teachers, tradies, hairdressers, nurses, landscapers, receptionists, taxi drivers, hospitality workers, and many more. Around 250 key workers in priority industries who are eligible for this subsidy are listed here. For more information about the Rent Choice Rental Subsidy Scheme, see here.
