Car Free Sunday and Big Family Fun Ride

Join Lane Cove’s inaugural Car Free Sunday on Sunday 17 September on parts of Longueville Road, Burns Bay Road and Birdwood Lane.

The event highlights the numerous benefits of going car-free, including reduced air pollution and the promotion of walking, and cycling in a safer environment.

Bring the whole family and enjoy the Big Family Fun Ride, make your own smoothie via pedal power, join a cycle skills course, donate your old bike and enter the helmet decorating competition.

Get involved.

Spring clean

Spring cleaning our homes has become an annual ritual for many of us and this September Clean Up Australia Day encourages us to get out and clean up our local environments.

You can start your own clean up or join the Lane Cove Sustainability Action Group's clean up at Woodford Bay on 30 September.

Going electric

Moving to renewable electricity for clean air is a safe choice for your household. Join the clean energy future and make your home all-electric.

There are 5 actions to take:

1. Install solar or switch to GreenPower
2. Switch to reverse-cycle air-conditioning for heating
3. Replace old gas hot water with a heat pump system
4. Upgrade to induction cooking
5. Move to electric bikes and cars

Council has rebates available to help and there are also other Government rebates available for electric vehicles and air-conditioning/hot water systems.

Learn from experts

We've teamed up with experts to deliver a free online course, @home, on how to live more sustainably. Learn how to reduce food waste, the power of going solar, the latest on electric vehicles, plus more.

Sign up to @home for free.

Get Prepared

18–24 September is Emergency Ready Week and we would like to remind everyone to have a plan in place in case of disaster to keep yourself, your family and pets protected. The Australian Red Cross has various tools to support your planning including a survival kit checklist, Rediplan and the Get Prepared app, co-created with NRMA.

As we head into summer and storm season, it's a good idea to understand how you can beat the heat, be storm safe and be bushfire ready. Visit Council's website for tips.

Visit the Red Cross site to download the app and find out more.

Save the date

Rotary Fair and Sustainability Lane is on Sunday 8 October. Visit The Canopy for an electric vehicle showcase, join a workshop, chat to community organisations and more. There's more than 80 stalls plus the kids will love the rides!

Tip of the Month

Plastic bags don't belong in any of your household recycling bins. Transfer your recyclables from your home to your recycling bin with a free bag from Council. Pick yours up from the Civic Centre today!

This project is a NSW Environment Protection Authority, Waste Less, Recycle More Initiative, funded by the waste levy.
