Calling All Marchers - St. Matthew Shopping Cart Brigade

The St. Matthew Shopping Cart Brigade will again participate in the Wheaton 4th of July Parade collecting food and money to benefit the People’s Resource Center and the Interfaith Food Pantry. This year’s parade will take place on Tuesday, July 4th, and we are looking for volunteers to push our shopping carts, collect food and money along the route, all while enjoying a festive stroll through the parade route.

Team Leader Alex Johnson will again lead our award-winning team on the day of the parade. This is a great family event, and all are invited to participate. If you want to join the team there is a sign-up in the narthex or you can advise the church office at office@stmatthewucc.org or email John Adams.

Summer Music

It's that time of year again, when our dedicated music ensembles take a much-deserved break and reenergize over the summer for a return in the fall.

We invite all musically inclined folks to consider sharing your talents with us this summer by signing up for a Sunday (or two, even) to offer special music. It doesn't need to be long or elaborate and doesn't need any more of a theme than to be joyfully presented. If you sing or play an instrument and need accompaniment, talk with Brian.

The sign-up sheet can be found in the narthex.

Feed My Starving Children - July 18th

Spend a summer afternoon with us at Feed My Starving Children on Tuesday, July 18th, from 2-3:45pm. It is a wonderful, family-friendly event. Hope to see many faces there!

Fox Valley AGO Events this Summer

The Fox Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists invites you to free organ concerts and events this summer!

Friday, June 9th, at 7:30pm, organist Dr. John Sherer, from Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago, will perform an exciting concert at Sacred Heart Church, 114 S Elizabeth St, Lombard. The concert is free and the church has a wonderful acoustic and pipe organ. See the poster in the narthex for more information.

June 18th-23rd, the chapter is hosting a week-long Pipe Organ Encounter (POE), which offers teenagers a rewarding opportunity to learn more about the pipe organ and its construction, lessons with experienced faculty, visits to hear and play outstanding instruments, and the chance to meet and interact with peers who share an interest in the King of Instruments. The camp will be held in Wheaton and the surrounding area, with many events at Wheaton College. A poster with all of the events open to the public can be found in the narthex or downloaded here.

Plan now for a wonderful summer evening on Friday, July 28th, at the 24th Annual “Bach and Beyond at the Abbey” program, held at 7:30pm at the Marmion Abbey Church, 850 Butterfield Rd, Aurora, IL 60502. This event is free and always well-attended, which makes for great energy and audience participation.
