As we approach the heart of summer, I want to take a moment to wish each of you a joyful and safe Independence Day. The Fourth of July is a time to reflect on the values that define our nation—freedom, perseverance, and unity. These same values resonate deeply within the game of basketball, especially for the young girls in our league who are learning not only the fundamentals of the sport but also the importance of teamwork, discipline, and resilience.

We are excited to share several important updates from our recent Board of Directors meeting held on Thursday, June 26th. The board continues to work diligently to enhance the experience for all players, families, and coaches in our league.

📣 New Division Coordinators

To improve communication and support across the league, we are introducing Division Coordinators for each level:

• Minors Division – Melinda Love
• Juniors Division – Craig Tanner
• Seniors Division – Ariane Dyson-Ahmed

These coordinators will serve as vital links between the league, coaches, parents, and players, ensuring a more connected and responsive experience for all.

🧠 Coach Development & Practice Planning

We remain committed to developing not only our players but also our volunteer coaches. In addition to the training videos added to our website last year, this season we will introduce practice plan templates tailored to each division. These plans will include skill checklists and timelines, offering guidance for new coaches while allowing flexibility for experienced ones. Our goal is to empower every coach with the tools they need to succeed.

We are proud to unveil a new logo for the West Hartford Girls Basketball League! This fresh design reflects the evolving identity and future branding of our league. (See below for a preview!)

📱 Registration System Upgrade

We are transitioning from LeagueApps to Crossbar for our registration and league management system. While most changes will be behind the scenes, families will benefit from a new mobile app that makes it easier to track teams, calendars, and events. We are also exploring updates to our website to align with this new system, so stay tuned for a refreshed look and feel.

With our new logo, we’re planning to launch a Team Swag Store this season! Parents and players will soon be able to purchase branded items like t-shirts, water bottles, backpacks, and caps to proudly represent the league.
