Welcome to the latest update on the SH10 Waipapa Corridor Improvements project.

This month road pavement and footpath preparation works continue throughout the site. Work to move services underground will be complete by the end of September.

From now until December construction will have more of an impact on drivers travelling the state highway, though two-way traffic will continue to be maintained.

Temporary road layout

Access will be restricted at the southern end of Waipapa Loop Road from the night of Monday 14 September (not this week as previously advised) to allow for works on the western side of the roundabout.

A one-way system will also be in place along Skippers Lane from south to north.

On exiting Skippers Lane, right-turning traffic will be directed around Waipapa Loop Road to make the turn onto the state highway safer and easier. Left-turning vehicles will be able to use a new exit at the northern end (indicated below).

Kerb and channel work beginning

Kerb preparation and concrete pouring will be underway until late September/early October along Waipapa Road, State Highway 10 and Skippers Lane.

To limit the impact on businesses, this work will be carried out outside of business hours as much as possible. Steel plates will be used to maintain access while concrete dries.

This work means we will be prepared to start laying asphalt in mid-late October, which will be done at night to minimise disruption.

Skippers Lane

Works on the eastern side

Stormwater installation on the eastern/state highway side of Skippers Lane is almost complete. Road pavement work will likely be finished by the end of next week, with kerbing preparation following immediately behind.

Kerb and footpath work

Kerb preparation and pouring will get underway from next week, moving from the eastern to the western side of Skippers Lane.

The concrete pour for kerbing on the western/shopfront side is booked for the last Saturday in September (weather permitting) and steel plates will be used to ensure access to any businesses that are open. The pour will be done from north to south.

The footpath will be laid in sections beginning late September or early October.

Parking availability

A reminder that public parking is available during the daytime from 8am-4pm behind the Pioneer Restaurant and Bar.

This parking is accessible from the service lane that runs between Skippers Lane and Maritime Lane. From 4pm parking is for Pioneer customers only.

Take care through site

Some vehicles driving through the site along the state highway have not been adhering to posted speed limits. This poses a risk to workers and will become more problematic as construction begins at the highway intersection with Waipapa Road/Waipapa Loop Road.

Please take care and drive slowly through the site. We appreciate your patience and will continue to minimise disruptions to traffic as much as possible.
