Welly Loves WOW Spend & Win
Upper Hutt City Council is proudly supporting Upper Hutt retailers who are participating in the Welly Loves WOW Spend & Win campaign by offering a bonus $500 prize to spend at a store of your choice. DigiMatua – An Opportunity for Māori & Pacific Families to Upskill on Computer use
Do you have Māori or Pacific parents on your staff family that could benefit from upskilling on computers?
The Hutt City Council is supporting DigiMatua again this year. This is a few hours a week online with a total of 20 hours of training in total.
Best of all DigiMatua sends a device to the families and then the families use it for those 20 hours. At the end, the families can buy the $300 device for $50.00. Hutt City Council has secured funding for the devices and so the participants will own them at the beginning of the programme.
There are 20 spaces available for the next cohort to begin in mid-October / November. As we have limited spaces, it will be on a first-in, first-served basis.
Criteria for participation are:
- 1 parent who would like to do this and can commit to one night per week for 4 or 5 weeks i.e. probably a 2-hour session online to do each week.
- While it is online, I will also provide a space for matua if they would like to meet in person.
- Depending on the language needs of the Matua, we can have bilingual Tongan or Samoan tutor
- There is support for the families to get internet connection if they don’t already have access at home

Regional Food Waste Survey
It is expected that in the coming years the management of organic waste will become mandated in New Zealand.
The Hutt City Council is interested to hear from businesses to help explore options in regard to organic waste management. They would like your help to get a better understanding of:
- What kind of organic waste is being created/processed/collected
- How organic waste is currently managed by your business
