Final major works next week

We have made good progress over the last month and have now finished weekend work on the project.  Last weekend (14-17 February) we finished most of the traffic islands and raised table crossings, adjacent footpaths and the island at the intersection of Great North Road and St Lukes Road.  We are finishing off in Duncan Maclean Link this week.

After the break this weekend for the Six60 concert we will start the last of the major works - bringing the seal on the bridge, the motorway off-ramp, and the slip roads to the motorway ramps up to standard.  As this work requires a full closure of the westbound motorway off-ramp at St Lukes Road (Exit 6), it can only be done at night.  We will also continue to finish off work in other areas. We will only need to close some road shoulders for this work.

Bike Auckland sees benefits in safer and smoother journeys

“We’re impressed with the speedy and efficient delivery of these essential safety upgrades on one of the city’s busiest bike paths, during one of the busiest of months for bike travel,” says Jolisa Gracewood, Communications Manager for Bike Auckland.

“More people are joining the flow along the NW cycleway every day, with summer ridership up 37% compared to this time last year. The raised tables will help make everyone's journeys a lot safer and smoother, so seeing those completed ahead of schedule is great news. We look forward to the completion of the rest of the works,” Jolisa Gracewood says.

Monday 24 To Thursday 27 February Night Shifts

Night work on the St Lukes Road Overbridge, on the left turn from Great North Road, and on the westbound motorway off-ramp means we will close the off-ramp (Exit 6) overnight Monday 24 to Thursday 27.  We will also set up  a contraflow on the northbound lane on the overbridge for southbound traffic.

The works will include milling of the old road surface, resealing and lane marking.  A detour will be in place on SH16 Northwestern Motorway to Exit 8A at Waterview returning along Great North Road.  Traffic controllers will assist people on foot and on bikes through the works.
