![]() October 2021 ![]() President's UpdateHello fellow students and interested parties, Happy Fall! The SSCCC is excited to announce that we are visiting colleges in person to hear directly from students. This past month, we have heard from students from Region II (Sierra College), Region VI (College of the Canyons, Moorpark College, Oxnard College), and Region VII (Los Angeles Valley College). The common theme from students at each of the colleges is their concern for safety as they return to campus, which will add to the SSCCC survey we are conducting on this same topic (see more information below). We look forward to visiting your campus and hearing about your experiences soon! This October, we conclude the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and begin celebrating the LGBTQ+ community. We have held multiple Instagram live events that cover various topics such as intersectionality and representation in government and politics. Please check them out at @SSCCCC_Official and stay tuned for our celebration of Native American Heritage Month in November. Are you interested in stepping into state-level advocacy? The SSCCC offers multiple opportunities to get involved in advocacy. Several vacancies remain in the regions, as well as the state level. To learn more about how you can get involved in a leadership role or in our caucuses, please check out our website at this page or email me at president@ssccc.org. As we head into the final months of 2021 and the Holiday season, the SSCCC remains committed to advocating for your success. Sharing your experience is a powerful way to advocate for change. As noted above and whether you are returning in person or online, we have heard from students on many of our college campuses that they are concerned about their safety as they return to campus. In order to be effective in our advocacy, we need your help in gathering student experiences and stories. You will be entered into a $25 Amazon Gift Card giveaway. The survey link can be found at this link. In solidarity, President Chavez ![]() SSCCC celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th to October 15th with several IG Live events and social media posts. We concluded the month by asking students at our Professional Development and Leadership event in Long Beach about what Hispanic Heritage Month means to them. Watch the short video below to hear their thoughts. This month we will be celebrating LGBTQ+.
