Dear ,

We hope you're staying warm and safe! Due to the impending snowstorm "Brent," the Town of West Hartford Department of Public Works has decided to close all schools tomorrow, February 9, 2025. As a result, all games are cancelled, and there will be no makeup games.  Thisi notification has already been posted to our website and our Facebook page.

Whether you're ready to chant "Fly Eagles Fly" or you're a die-hard "Swiftie", we hope you enjoy Super Bowl Sunday!

Welcome to Our Newest Board Member

We are excited to announce that our league's Board of Directors is expanding! Please join us in welcoming Jennifer Pasion-Blocker to the board. Among her responsibilities, Jennifer will be helping to coordinate referees for the league. You can learn more about Jennifer soon on our league website.

Uniforms Reminder

It is extremely important that all players wear their required uniforms for games. If your daughter’s uniform is UNWEARABLE, please email the league at president@whgbl.org before the end of the day Sunday so we can assist you. We have been working with a couple of teams that had issues with shorts, and we are addressing those concerns.  All players are required to wear their league issued uniforms or they may not be able to play in games.

Skills Competition – Saturday, March 8

We are thrilled to announce that the league will host a Skills Competition on Saturday, March 8, from 1pm - 4pm ET at Conard High School. This event is open to all players in all divisions, and we encourage everyone to participate!

Here are the featured skill events:
🏀 "Kick the Cones" – Minors & Juniors Division
🏀 "Knockout" – Minors & Juniors Division
🏀 "Hot Shot" – Minors, Juniors & Seniors Division
🏀 Exclusive 3-on-3 Tournament – Seniors Division only

We intend to have the Girls Varsity Basketball Head Coaches from Conard, Hall, and Northwest Catholic attend the 3-on-3 tournament, so if your daughter is interested, please have her notify her Head Coach immediately for instructions.

Parents and coaches should click this link "Skills Competition" for more details about all of the events for the Skills Competition.  Trophies are provided for winners and runner-ups for many of the events and the trophies will be awarded in-between the Juniors and Seniors Championship Games on Sunday, May 9.

PLEASE NOTE:  A player MUST ATTEND the award ceremony on Sunday, May 9, to receive her award.  If she can't attend the award ceremony on Sunday, May 9, SHE WILL NOT RECEIVE THE AWARD.

A Reminder About Our League's Philosophy

The West Hartford Girls Basketball League is a teaching league, focused on developing core leadership values through learning the fundamentals of basketball.

While we do keep score in the Minors Division, please remember that volunteer coaches are responsible for tracking it. There may be occasional missed points, but our priority is ensuring that games run smoothly, teams transition efficiently, and players receive quality coaching.

Additionally, to maintain fair competition in Minors Division games, if a team leads by 20+ points at the end of a quarter, the score will be reset to 0-0 for the next quarter. In some cases, a volunteer coach may intentionally reset the score during an unbalanced game to comply with this rule.

Thank you for your support in making our league a positive, fun, and educational experience for all players!

Take care,

Shawn Daly
