BIODIVERSITY Casey Flora and Fauna spotlight - River Red Gum Providing habitat for many native animals including insects, mammals, and birds the majestic River Redgum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) is an important feature in the Casey landscape. Tree Hollows - Open Data Portal Council’s Open Data platform empowers the community to better understand and protect important natural resources. The portal provides information about the tree hollow locations that are essential for many birds, mammals, and reptiles as they offer safe sites for shelter, roosting, and nesting. Road safety around wildlife Every year thousands of native animals are killed on Victorian roads. The period between dusk and dawn is a particularly dangerous time to be on the road, because much of our wildlife is nocturnal, venturing out at these times in search of food. WASTE AND RECYCLING Choose your act today Small acts can make a big impact! What changes will you make to reduce your waste? Making a shopping list based around meals, can be a great way to reduce food waste. Reducing plastics at work Australians threw away more than two and a half million tonnes of plastic in 2018-19, with businesses responsible for more than half. That’s a lot of wasted resources! It is just as important to play your part in reducing plastic consumption at work as it is at home.
