Parents newsletter - March 2024With winter break over, students are in the latter half of the term. It’s time to start thinking about final projects and preparing for exams. It is completely normal to feel a measure of stress about exams, so if that is your student’s experience, they are not alone. Please encourage them to use the resources available and to reach out to their friends and Carleton network for support. Many students begin confirming their summer plans at this time of year. The summer course schedule is available for students to get caught up or get ahead. The Spring Career Fair and the Job Board offer opportunities for students to get valuable employment experience. Important Dates and Deadlines Friday, March 8, 2024: Last day to withdraw from late winter term courses with a full fee adjustment. Friday, March 15, 2024: Last day for academic withdrawal from full winter, late winter and fall/winter courses. Friday, March 29, 2024: Statutory holiday. University closed. Monday, April 1, 2024: Last day for receipt of applications from potential spring (June) graduates. Spring Career FairCarleton students and new grads are invited to attend the in-person Spring Career Fair on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., offering the chance to get to know more than 35 hiring employers from a range of industries! In advance of the Spring Career Fair, students are encouraged to attend the Prepare for the Fair events. Sessions include resume reviews, building a strong online presence and tips on networking. Celebrating Carleton Women on International Women's Day Carleton University is recognizing the accomplishments and contributions of amazing women in our community on International Women’s Day (IWD) on Friday, March 8, 2024. Examples of leadership, achievement, positive change and hard work from Carleton women – students, faculty, instructors and staff members – are showcased on the university’s IWD webpage.
Ancillary Fee Referenda: Mental Health Fee The Carleton University ancillary fee referenda has been issued. Due to overwhelming demand for increased mental health supports, Health and Counselling Services is proposing a $25 per term mental health fee. Encourage your student to vote by online ballot through their cMail on Thursday, March 14 and Friday, March 15, 2024. Winter 2024 Exam Schedule Available The winter 2024 final exam schedule is now available. Your student can find the schedule on the Scheduling and Examination Services website, through their Carleton360 account and the Carleton Mobile app. The final exam period takes place Saturday, April 13 to Thursday, April 25, 2024. Examinations are normally held all seven days of the week.
Therapy Dog Convocation Livestream Celebrate the Carleton Therapy Dogs and their handlers with us on Thursday, March 7, 2024 by livestream! Watch the dogs cross the stage in recognition of their contributions to Carleton’s mental health and wellness services. Therapy Dogs offer paw-ffice hours across campus throughout the week. The Summer Session is Almost Here! You may want to encourage your student to start thinking about summer session courses. The summer session is a great time to catch up or get ahead on their studies. Your student can now access the summer schedule through Carleton Central (by logging into Carleton360). Registration for the summer session begins Thursday, March 21, 2024, for degree students and Monday, March 25, 2024, for non-degree students.
Proposals Open for Carleton Student EDI Research Awards Applications are open for the 2024 Carleton University Student EDI Research Awards. This award provides funding for students to conduct a summer research project rooted in topics or frameworks related to equity, diversity and/or inclusion. Each research proposal must be supported by a faculty member or full-time instructor who will supervise the project. Up to five undergraduate student awards are available, each valued at $10,000. Applications are due Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Residence ApplicationsDoes your student want your student to live with likeminded people? Perhaps they're interested in a shorter commute? They might consider living in residence! Applications are now open for summer student residence and the 2024-2025 academic year. Free Menstrual Products Available on Campus More than 60 washrooms in MacOdrum Library, Nideyinàn, Tory Building, Southam Hall, Minto CASE, Nicol Building, Richcraft Hall and Azrieli Theatre have free menstrual products, thanks to a collaboration between several Carleton offices and the Carleton University Students' Association (CUSA). Information and resources on reproductive rights and sexual health through CUSA’s Flowing Rights campaign are available in these washrooms as well. Uploading Resume and Cover Letter Documents to mySuccess Is your student beginning to apply to jobs through the Career Services Job Board? Students can upload their documents to mySuccess in order to experience a smooth application process! Check out the easy three-step process on the current students website. First Year Connections - Hiring Mentors The Student Experience Office (SEO) is hiring mentors to support the First Year Connections program for the upcoming academic year. The peer mentor positions are a part-time, paid opportunity for September and October with training in the summer. Applications are due Friday, March 15, 2024. Graduation/Spring Convocation Students who will have completed their program requirements in winter 2024 must apply to graduate in Carleton Central (log in Carleton360 via the Current Students website). The deadline for your student to do so is Monday, April 1, 2024. Please visit the Convocation website for the most up to date information regarding Convocation.
