Main project works to begin in April

Construction of the main works in the Northern Corridor Improvements (NCI) project will get underway in April, kick starting off a major four year construction programme on the North Shore.

The NCI project's main works include upgrades to SH1 and SH18 (Upper Harbour Highway); a new motorway connection near Constellation Drive; an extension of the Northern Busway to Albany Bus station; and over 7kms of new walking and cycling paths.

Residents and commuters on the North Shore will already have noticed early preparation works ahead of the main works, including night works which have been underway since January and survey and mitigation works for other utility providers with service lines close to the motorway.

Extensive community engagement is already underway to make sure that all affected neighbours and businesses know what will be happening during construction, ahead of time. See our story below for a contact point for the area near you.

Find out more; visit our open days

Come along to our upcoming Info Days (see details below) to view the final design, find out more about the construction staging near you, meet the team and join our contact databases.

At the open days our team will also be able to explain some enhancements made to the design since it was approved in late 2017. The design team has looked closely at construction-level innovations and the latest best practice traffic management ideas to improve customer journeys and reduce the impact of construction.

A new series of maps and posters will also be published on our website after the open days - www.nzta.govt.nz/auckland-northern-corridor

Reminder about night works on SH1

Detours have been in place on Northern Motorway (SH1)  between Upper Harbour/Constellation and Oteha Valley Road interchanges (9pm-5am) every Sunday through Thursday since mid-January.

Significant progress has been made to prepare the motorway for the major works. A large part of the motorway has been resurfaced, new line markings will continue to be painted and median barriers and overhead gantry boards relocated.

Detours will continue to be in place for another 2 months – check out our map below for details, and plan ahead to give yourself more time.

The detours will be the same every night,  to make it easy and familiar for people who travel regularly at night.
