1. A crane for tight spots

Story
Story

The Franna crane is designed for lifting and moving heavy objects in tight spaces. It bends in the middle to turn sharply, and its compact design means it can go virtually anywhere. The video below shows the crane lifting and installing interlocking concrete barriers under the bridge at the Ruakura Interchange.

2. Kay Road has closed

On 10 January, Kay Road was closed near the intersection with North City Road. This is a permanent closure fon the western side. The eastern section of Kay Road will be renamed Ennion Rise. When the expressway opens, motorists on Resolution Drive will be able to turn left into Ennion Rise. When exiting Ennion Rise, they will be able to turn left into Resolution Drive and travel into the city.Click the image below to see progress with drainage and road construction.

3. Pavement crew celebrate

The crew building the rock pavement for the expressway celebrated completing their final section just before Christmas. The special Hi-Lab rock blend binds large rocks in a fine cement slurry. The slurry sets hard to provide a strong base for the sealing layers.

5. Special curves down south

The bridges in the Southern Interchange are anything but standard structures – and this photo proves it. Both bridges are curved and built with one end higher than the other. In February 2022, SH1 traffic will be redirected over the bridge at left.
