Have your say from 22 June to 22 July, 2022

We're asking for your feedback on the updated improvements recommended for SH1 Rolleston.

We've listened and made changes

Feedback from the community in 2021 has helped shaped our plans. We'd like to check in one more time before we finalise our recommended draft plan and close out the business case ready for the next project phase - detailed design.

The main changes include:

A more direct flyover connection between Rolleston Drive North and Jones Road.

More highway access points - to ease travel and improve efficiency at Weedons Interchange - including a free left turn northbound onto the highway from Hoskyns Road (after the rail crossing) and a southbound service lane off-ramp to Rolleston Drive North and Jones Road.

Our website has more information on the proposed changes. (Linked below.)

Straighter, smarter

When we proposed the skewed flyover during public consultation last year, people told us that pointing traffic to the east and having to backtrack was too limiting. The preference was for access to all Rolleston's industrial areas and for the full length of Jones Road to remain.

We're recommending a more direct flyover connection. It's a shorter and more intuitive travel route. The bridge will feel similar in rise to Prestons Road bridge in Redwood. The new alignment also preserves land for future development opportunities such as expanded Park'n'Ride facilities.

The bridge structure is not as large and complex to build, which is better for the environment and the community.
