One of Our Own Does It Again: Lucas Politano Wins the 2026 Vermont Amateur Championship

If you’ve spent any time around Ralph Myhre Golf Course, chances are you’ve seen Lucas Politano grinding on the range, walking the fairways, or competing in one of our club events. This week, one of our own reminded the entire state why he’s one of Vermont’s very best.

Lucas captured the 2026 Vermont Amateur Championship in spectacular fashion at historic Ekwanok Country Club, closing with a brilliant 5-under-par 65 to win the state’s most prestigious amateur title by an incredible 12 strokes.

Lucas finished the 72-hole championship at an 8-under-par 272 (70-66-71-65) and was the only player in the field to finish under par. His second-round 66 and final-round 65 were the two lowest rounds of the entire tournament.

The victory is Lucas’s second Vermont Amateur Championship in three years and continues what has already been an incredible year. Following a standout freshman season at Rutgers University—where he earned PING All-Northeast Region honors and became the first freshman under head coach Rob Shutte to qualify for the NCAA Championships—Lucas returned home and once again proved he’s among the best amateur golfers in the region.

After taking the lead during the second round, Lucas never looked back. He carried a three-shot advantage into Thursday’s final round before putting together six birdies and just one bogey to pull away from the field, finishing one shot shy of Ekwanok’s course record.

“It’s definitely nice seeing this trophy next to me again,” Politano said after the win. “This week is so special for everybody in the field, but definitely for me, this year in particular was special for its own reasons. To get back in the winner’s circle is always really nice.”

The victory also earns Lucas a spot in the 126th U.S. Amateur Championship, which will be played August 10–16 at the legendary Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania.

We’re incredibly proud to call Lucas a member of the Ralph Myhre family. From growing up around the course as the son of our head golf professional, Paul Politano, to becoming one of the top amateur players in the country, Lucas has been on journey that's been a privilege to watch.

Congratulations, Lucas! We can’t wait to follow you at the U.S. Amateur next month.
