The five finalists range from as far north as Dalby on Queensland’s Darling Downs and to Spring Ridge on the Liverpool Plains in New South Wales. Well-known Boggabri cotton grower Andrew Watson has featured in a nationally broadcast 60 Minutes story on the Trump Tariff issues impacting global trade including Australia. Newly appointed NSW Agriculture Commissioner Alison Stone has held an initial meeting with Cotton Australia CEO Adam Kay to discuss priorities for the agriculture sector and issues affecting cotton growers. The first-ever Teach the Teacher event in Kununurra was held last week, with 13 participants attending from early childhood through to high school, as well as local parent committee members. Over the past week, Cotton Australia Regional Manager for the Darling Downs, Howard Coggan, has taken part in a range of student-focused activities aimed at highlighting career pathways and increasing awareness of the cotton industry — from attending the UQ Agricultural Science Society’s Beers 'n' Careers event to leading farm visits for school students across the Darling Downs for hands-on learning experiences. Students from across Greater Sydney recently came together for the Barker Ag HSC Revision Day in Hornsby, where they heard from industry leaders, including Cotton Australia CEO Adam Kay. The Queensland Farmers Federation are hosting workshops under the Farm Business Resilience Program including Forecasting to Farm – weather tools to aid seasonal planning webinar and Strengthening the financial security of rural agribusiness women event in Dalby. The producers of popular 7 network show Farmer Wants a Wife is again calling on single cotton growers to consider applying to join the show for the 2026 season.
