The federal government has committed to a 10-year LGBTIQA+ health and wellbeing action plan alongside a $26 million research investment. The plan will be informed by national consultation, lived experiences of LGBTIQA+ people and the organisations that serve them.

Our words matter: new guidelines to enact positive language changeEverymind, with the support of the National Mental Health Commission, will be launching a new set of guidelines aimed at improving the language used when communicating about mental health and wellbeing, mental ill-health, self-harm, suicide, eating disorders and alcohol and other drugs (AOD).

New research examines suicide deaths among older Australians either accessing or waiting to access aged careResearch has found that 354 people from a cohort of 532,507 who were either accessing or waiting for aged care services, died by suicide between 2008 and 2017. The study focused on people aged 65 years or older who had an aged care eligibility assessment (ACAT) or were approved for a home care package or permanent residential aged care (PRAC).

University of South Australia releases spotlight report on person-centred and consumer directed mental health careThe report was conducted by UniSA’s Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Research and Education Group. Dr Mark Loughhead, a lecturer from the Lived Experience of the Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Research and Education Group at UniSA details the findings from the report and eight areas for action.
