New Bay Link speed limits to match new infrastructure

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) has set new permanent speed limits for the infrastructure built as part of the SH2 Baypark to Bayfair Link project. These new permanent speed limits are in place on sections of SH2, SH29A, Maunganui Road, the various on- and off-ramps, and a small section of Truman Lane (former SH29A).

The temporary speed limits in place as part of the construction of the Bay Link project will be removed once the permanent speed limits take effect. Some temporary traffic management, including speed limits, will be applied if and when needed to close out any remaining works.

The new speed limits ensure safety of all road users.

NZTA consulted on a proposed speed limit change between 14 November and 12 December 2022.

New permament speed limits

From Wednesday 23 October 2024 the new permanent speed limits will be:

  • SH2/Maunganui Road from Hewletts Road flyover to Bayfair flyover, in both directions 60km/h
  • SH2 Bayfair flyover, from Concord Ave to Tauranga Eastern Link, in both directions 80km/h
  • Maunganui Road approaches and exits to and from Bayfair roundabout 60km/h
  • Bayfair roundabout 60km/h
  • Maunganui Road between Bayfair roundabout and SH2/SH29A Te Maunga interchange, in both directions 60km/h
  • SH29A west of the SH29A roundabout to and including SH29A roundabout and SH2/SH29A Te Maunga interchange 60km/h
  • Truman Lane section (former SH29A), between SH29A roundabout and Baypark in both directions 50km/h

NZTA thanks drivers, local residents and businesses for their patience while we complete the Bay Link project.
