I am excited to announce that registration for the 2025 West Hartford Girls Basketball League (WHGBL) season is officially open! Our league is a recreational basketball program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade, and space is limited—so please don’t wait to secure your daughter’s spot.  All eligible players are welcome to play (there are no tryouts for our league).

At WHGBL, our mission goes far beyond basketball. We are committed to helping every player build the leadership skills that will serve her both on and off the court. Our program focuses on ten key values: confidence, teamwork, sportsmanship, humility, character, respect, integrity, responsibility, perseverance, and gratitude.

Registration Details

• Fee: $150 per player (same as last year!)

• What’s included: Uniforms, officials, staff, and equipment

• Uniform Update: Based on feedback from parents and players, we’re making a slight change to the uniform shorts this season for better fit and comfort.

• Team Sponsors: We’re thrilled to welcome new sponsors! Some team names in our Seniors Division will change to reflect these great community partners.

Exciting News About West Hartford Magic Travel Basketball

In addition to our league, many families may also be interested in the West Hartford Magic Travel Basketball program. While the Magic is not affiliated with WHGBL, we share a positive relationship and are happy to support their efforts.

The Magic program has been serving West Hartford athletes since 1998, offering a competitive, travel-level basketball experience for players who want to take their game to the next level. Their season runs from late October to March and includes two practices per week plus 1–2 games on weekends (20+ games total). Teams are offered in grades 4–8, with tryouts starting in late September through the first week of October.

WHGBL Options for Magic Families

If your daughter is interested in trying out for the Magic, you have three options with WHGBL:

1. Magic Only First: Sign up only for Magic tryouts. If she doesn’t make the team (you’ll know by mid-October), you’ll still have until the end of October to register her for WHGBL.

2. Register for Both Now: Sign up for both Magic and WHGBL to guarantee a WHGBL spot. If she makes the Magic team, you can request and receive a full WHGBL refund before registration closes.

3. Play Both: Many girls play in both leagues for extra experience. Our practices and games typically don’t overlap with the Magic’s schedule, and we’ve even had coaches involved in both programs.
