New map showing proposed amenity area

February 2019

An Open Day was held at the Ahaura community hall on 22 November 2018, to provide an update on the progress of the project and receive feedback. The Open Day was well received and the majority who attended were from the local community. We would like to thank all the attendees who came to the Open Day and provided their feedback.

The consensus from the Open Day was:

  • Support of the proposed alignment.
  • Agreement with reducing the speed limit with the installation of an electronic speed advisory sign.
  • Agreement with the proposed upgrade to the Camp St/Clifton St intersection as the community commented on the number of crashes/near misses that occur in this area.
  • Agreement that the area between the current and new bridge, north of the Ahaura River, would need to be developed so it was easy to care for.
  • There is a need for the proposed crossing point for pedestrians to be located closer to the community hall to enable safe crossing point on route from the school and reserve.

What’s been done with the Open Day feedback

Crossing point

We have looked at other options for the location of the proposed crossing point. The crossing point will remain in its proposed location, and a second crossing point will be located closer to the community hall.

Proposed amenity area

We propose to develop the redundant area between the current and new bridge, north of the Ahaura River, into an amenity area with landscaping.

This area will be designed to be low maintenance as suggested by the attendees of the Open Day. The design of the recreational area will be finalised following further community engagement.

What’s next?

Over the next few months we will be:

  • Finalising the design of the proposed bridge and road alignment.
  • Undertaking ongoing consultation with the community and stakeholders.
  • Lodging the Resource Management Act applications that are required for the project to proceed.
