Changes to Federal Environmental Legislative, Including Native Vegetation Late last year, the federal Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (1999) was amended. Sick, personal and carer’s leave are the same entitlement, with full-time employees accruing 10 days per year and part-time employees a pro rata amount. Leave starts from day one, rolls over each year and is paid at the base rate, with unused sick leave not paid out on termination. Employers can request evidence, even for one day, and valid certificates include telehealth and pharmacy providers. Workers from Moree were upskilled in cotton picker operations last week, for the first of at least 10 cotton picker essentials workshops being delivered in New South Wales and Queensland over the next month in the lead-up to picking. Over 180 cotton growers, their families, and industry supporters gathered under the stars at the St George Golf Club to celebrate the 2024–25 cotton season, just prior to the cotton pickers starting to roll into this year’s pick. After spending time building careers off-farm, fourth-generation farmers Hugh, Jock, Oscar and Archie have returned to the family farm, bringing fresh energy and a strong sense of teamwork, this month they will host the Australian Cotton Grower of the Year Field Day, showcasing how their collaborative, multi‑generational business. Australian Cotton Conference Australia’s cotton industry will come together on the Gold Coast this year for its flagship event, with registrations now open for the 2026 Australian Cotton Conference. Under the theme Future Fit Cotton, the 2026 Conference will be held from 4–6 August for three days of learning, networking and industry celebration. |
