This will help keep you informed on what’s happening across the region’s highways so you can plan ahead. Take extra care, on what are sure to be busy Otago highways leading into the long Waitangi holiday weekend. Lots of motorcyclists will be riding south to Invercargill for the Burt Munro Challenge from 4 to 8 February. Most highway roadworks are paused for the long Waitangi weekend. However, some traffic management may be in place to keep road users safe, and to protect road repairs. Dunedin to ChristchurchSH1 North Dunedin: Traffic signal repairs will take place from 2 to 5 February between 6am and 7pm. Expect delays of about 5 minutes. SH1 Pine Hill Road: Vegetation management will take place from 2 to 5 February between 6am and 7pm. Allow for delays of about 5 minutes. SH1 Bushey: Highway rebuild work from 2 to 15 February. Work is taking place on weekdays from 6am to 7pm. Short delays are expected. SH1 Kakaho Creek: Road rebuild work continues on weekdays from 6am to 7pm until 1 March. Stop/go traffic management and temporary speed limits are in place. Expect delays of around 10 minutes. SH1 Herbert: Road repair work will take place from 2 to 5 February between 6am and 7pm. Expect delays of about 5 minutes. SH1 Makikihi to Morven: Pavement and surfacing repairs will continue in multiple locations until 13 February. Work is taking place under daytime stop/go traffic management with a 30 km/h speed limit. Delays of up to 10 minutes are expected. SH1 Waimate Highway: Road reconstruction will take place near Gum Tree Flat Road until 27 February. Stop/go traffic management will be in place, with a 30 km/h temporary speed limit and delays of up to 10 minutes expected. Speed restrictions will remain when the site is unattended. SH1 Timaru, Evans Street / Grants Road: Taitarakihi Culvert replacement works are continuing until March. There are currently lane shifts on SH1 and 30km/h temporary speed limits 24 hours per day. Expect congestion on SH1 at this site. SH1 Opihi River Bridge: Tree trimming will take place on 4 February on the bridge approaches under daytime stop/stop traffic management with a 30 km/h temporary speed limit. Expect congestion and delays of up to 20 minutes. SH1 Temuka River Bridge: Bridge handrail repairs will take place on 3 February under daytime stop/go traffic management with a 30 km/h temporary speed limit. Expect congestion and delays of up to 20 minutes. SH1 Rolleston at the intersection with Dunns Crossing Road: Entry to Dunns Crossing Road from SH1 remains closed until the end of February. SH1 Rolleston at Weedons Road interchange: Night works begin 1 February for about two weeks to install new service trenches and relocate existing services on Weedons Road and the SH1 off-ramp. From 8pm to 5am each night the SH1 southbound off-ramp and on-ramp will be closed. Local detours will be in place. Work will not take place on Friday or Saturday nights, or 5 February prior to Waitangi Day.

Dunedin to InvercargillSH1 Milton: Culvert maintenance will take place from 2 to 5 February between 6am and 7pm. Expect delays of about 5 minutes. SH93 Old Coach Road various locations: Vegetation management, and road surface stabilising work will be carried out on 3, 4 and 5 Februar,y 7am to 7pm. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes. SH1 Pioneer highway at Brydone: Chip seal resurfacing from 2 to 5 February, 7am to 7pm.Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

Dunedin to QueenstownSH8 Clarks Flat: Road repairs from 2 to 5 February between 6am and 7pm. Expect delays of about 5 minutes. SH8 Stableburn near Millers Flat: A 3km road rebuild is underway until 9 April, Monday to Friday, from 7am to 6pm to extend the life of the road and create a better driving surface. Delays of up to 10 minutes. SH8 and SH8B intersection Cromwell: Road resurfacing from 2 to 20 February, between 9pm to 6am, Sundays to Thursdays. Single lane closure with drivers being asked to stop on demand. See our traffic bulletin for more details. SH6 Kawarau Gorge: Culvert repairs will take place from 4 to 5 February between 7.30am and 6pm. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

Work on other key Otago highwaysSH6 Pipson Creek (near Makarora): Repairs after recent weather events will take place from 2 to 5 February between 8am and 5.30pm. This work will allow water to flow freely under the bridge and prevent flooding over the road. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes. SH6 Kingston to Frankton: Slip site clearing will take place from 2 to 5 February between 7.30am and 6pm to make this section of highway safer. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes. SH8 Bendigo: Road reconstruction continues until 13 February, Monday to Friday, from 7am to 6pm to extend the life of the highway surface and increase safety. Stop/go traffic management will be in place. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes. SH8 near Omarama: Road retaining wall repairs will take place from 2 to 5 February between 6am and 7pm. Expect delays of about 5 minutes. SH8A Luggate Bridge: The bridge will close overnight from 18 January to 27 March between 8pm and 6am for strengthening and maintenance work. A detour will be in place and could add up to 30 minutes to your journey. Please follow all detour and advisory signs. SH83 Awamoko to Georgetown: A full road rebuild will continue on weekdays until around 31 March between 7am and 6pm. Stop/go traffic management or temporary signals will be in place as required. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes. SH83 Pukeuri to Omarama: Road surface repairs will take place from 2 to 5 February between 7am and 6pm. Expect delays of about 5 minutes. SH85 Ranfurly to Kyeburn: Minor road surface repairs will take place from 2 to 5 February between 7am and 6pm. Expect delays of about 5 minutes. SH87 Mosgiel to Kyeburn: Crews will stabilise and repair sections of the highway on weekdays from 2 to 5 February. Expect delays of about 5 minutes. SH88 Roseneath to St Leonards: Dunedin City Council is carrying out watermain renewals that started last September and continue until early July. Stop/go traffic management or temporary signals will be in place 24/7, excluding public holidays. Allow extra time for your journey. All queries about this work should go to DCC on 03 477 4000. SH88 Ravensbourne: Vegetation management will take place from 2 to 5 February between 6am and 7pm. Expect delays of about 5 minutes. SH90 near Gore: The final stage of this road rebuild is underway Monday to Friday from 6am to 8pm until 31 March. Traffic will be managed by temporary traffic lights with a 30 km/h speed limit. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.
