Parents newsletter - February 2025February is here and with it comes approaching midterms and increasing workloads. With winter break coming soon, it’s a good time for students to take a pause, check in on their wellness and use the resources available to them. It’s also a good time of year to start thinking about summer plans, including the summer job search. Whether looking for input on part-time jobs or for guidance in selecting a full-time career, our career experts are trained to help Carleton students with the job application process. Important Dates and Deadlines Monday, February 17, 2025: Statutory holiday. University closed. Monday, February 17, to Friday, February 21, 2025: Winter break. No classes. Today: Winter Career & Networking Fair The Winter Career & Networking Fair is happening today (Wednesday, February 5, 2025) from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Teraanga Commons. Students and new grads are encouraged to attend to meet hiring employers, learn about future opportunities and practice networking skills. Your student can register on-site if they have not pre-registered.
Celebrating Black History Month February is Black History Month, an opportunity for our community to learn and celebrate the cultural diversity and achievements of Black Canadians from the past, present and future. Throughout the month, Ravens can visit the Black History Month webpage as the Carleton community mobilizes to celebrate and highlight Black leadership, achievements and experiences. Capital Hoops A limited number of tickets are still available for the 2025 Capital Hoops Classic! The biggest university basketball game in Canadian university sports takes over the Arena at TD Place on Friday, February 7, 2025. Students can stay safe and have fun at these epic Rivalry Series games by following these tips to help reduce harm, be a good neighbour and create a culture of consent. Go Ravens!
Winter Break is Almost Here The winter break is a great time to rest, rejuvenate and regroup for the remainder of the term. With midterms coming up, it’s important that students prioritize both their coursework and their wellness. Carleton has many resources to help them stay on track, from academic support and employability to wellness. During the winter break, the university is closed on Monday, February 17, 2025 for the Family Day holiday. While classes are paused from Tuesday, February 18 to Friday, February 21, 2025, campus remains open.
2025-2026 Residence Applications Is your Raven looking to live in Residence next year? Housing and Residence Life Services is accepting applications for the 2025-2026 academic year. The deadline for upper year students to be included in the first round of offers is Tuesday, February 17, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. Lottery results will be communicated on Thursday, February 20, 2025 with the date and time room selection becomes available on the Housing portal. The first round of room selection is scheduled for early March. Applications received Tuesday, February 18, 2025 onward will receive time tickets to select their spaces for mid-end of March on a first come, first served basis. Carleton Mobile App Update: Version 1.5.0 An updated version of Carleton Mobile is now available to download. The new version includes notifications for students living in residence, addresses bug fixes and general updates. Master Digital Skills Employers Seek: the FUSION Digital Literacy Module In today's job market, employers are seeking candidates who can effectively search for, generate, interpret and communicate digital content. The FUSION digital literacy module equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify accurate and reliable information, have appropriate netiquette, properly manage digital presence and more.
How to… PASS Your Class Your student can join the Centre for Student Academic Support and a Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) study buddy to work on exam study tactics and review course material in a supportive, friendly environment. All subject matters are welcome. Research in Residence is Back for the Winter Term Is your Raven living in residence this winter? The library is bringing support sessions to Teraanga Commons several times throughout the term to aid with finding sources for assignments, guidance on citations and informing about services the library provides. Carleton’s Free Tax Clinic is Open The Sprott Tax Students' Association can help your student file their 2024 return with their annual tax clinic. Your student can fill out the tax clinic's client intake form and the team will review to determine if their tax return is within the clinic’s scope. They will be emailed a link to book an appointment between Monday, March 24 to Friday, March 29, 2025. Carleton Senate Accepting Nominations Is your student interested in having a say in the academic governance and future of Carleton University? They can run for a position in the Senate! Nominations are due Friday, February 28, 2025.

Summer Research Opportunities for FASS & FPGA The Carleton University Research Opportunity Program offers eligible Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) and Faculty of Public and Global Affairs (FPGA) undergraduate students the chance to spend 16 weeks (May to August 2025) conducting a research project under faculty supervision while earning a $10,000 stipend. For eligibility and further details, visit the FGPA CUROP webpage or the FASS CUROP webpage. Applications are due Friday, February 28, 2025.
Completing Course Work at Another University Is your student interested in studying at another university during the summer? Carleton students may be eligible to gain credit for courses taken at another recognized university through a Letter of Permission (LOP).
