COVID-19 update

Kia ora,

We hope that you have all been safe and well in your bubbles.

Our team will be back on site on Tuesday 28 April, but you won’t see all our machines start up right away. We first need to put our plans in place to achieve the requirements of the new COVID-19 level 3 safety protocols. This is our top priority, we will only be resuming construction work when we are sure we can keep our team and our local community safe.

When our construction crews are back on-site they will be stepping outside of their bubbles as they can’t do their work from home. And they will be doing their work within a whole new set of safety protocols to keep all of us safe.

At Alert Level 3, Waka Kotahi crews will be following the official New Zealand construction Covid-19 protocols including restricted access to sites, requirements for workers to maintain physical distancing, and the use of additional protective clothing. These standards will be the same across the construction and building sector.

Crews will form small working bubbles who will stick together throughout the day while maintaining safe social distance. Where they are working away from home they will also share accommodation and travel bubbles. Other preparations at the Ōpaoa site include new signage, more toilets and washing facilities, and additional personal protective equipment (PPE).

From next week, our first task will be to coach the entire team on how to work safely within the level 3 protocols. All going well, we hope to have work restarting later this week.

Please be careful, be kind and give our crews a friendly wave when you see them.

If you have any queries please feel free to email us and we will do our best to get back to you as soon as we can: opaoariverbridge@nzta.govt.nz

Ngā mihi,

The Project Team
