Summer? & MAN.MADE.

Hi All,

I think we can be forgiven for wondering if Summer has in fact arrived here but as it's been 3 months since the last newsletter, I can only deduce that it must be!

Hectic is probably the best way to describe the last 3 months, as we got closer and closer to my new book MAN.MADE. being published. There were quite a few hurdles to overcome on the way, I'm sure other self-published authors find the same, that writing the story always seems to be the easy part especially when you work with an editor as good as Richard Arcus.

A soundtrack within

I'm very happy to let one big cat out of the bag before you read it; MAN.MADE. comes with its own soundtrack contained within the pages. It's not every crime thriller story that can boast that, is it!?

I have to confess it was really hard to have to come up with a whole new list of songs for Dan and not rely on my own. My friends and family would've recognised mine straight away; injecting myself into Dan's life story could be very dangerous if some people thought I was talking about myself and by extension them in certain places and chapters. It was one of the more fun parts of the process too, trawling through Spotify, YouTube and so on for inspiration and for the right song, depending on where I was in the book.

Dedicated to dad

Finally and maybe most importantly of all, this book is dedicated to Gordon David Austin, my Dad, who passed away earlier this year.

I cannot begin to describe how good a man he was. He was certainly the biggest contributor in making me the man I am. I love you, Dad.

MAN.MADE. is the fifth Dan Calder book but it might easily be the first. I hope you all enjoy it and I look forward to hearing what you think.

Onto other things - I've joined the TikTok family - God help us all.

Even though the ink on MAN.MADE. is hardly dry, there's no rest for the wicked - Calder 6 is up and running!

How to end this edition? It would be very me to conclude with a little bit of another mystery, all of which will be revealed in a couple of months. Writing books, teaching yoga, keeping myself and Willow going just isn't enough.

There's another big life change coming too, with pictures to prove it. But that's for next time.
