Bringing disciplines together to close the equity gap

In the first edition of the Centre's newsletter for 2025,  it’s exciting to see such diverse, innovative and passionate work across the Centre.

Recently, I participated in a discussion on Reducing Inequalities by Investing in Early Childhood Education and Care, the latest in the OECD's Starting Strong series, and was reminded of the power of lateral thinking and working creatively. In the associated brochure, I highlighted the importance of bringing together different perspectives (child, parent/carer, community, government) to the global challenge of addressing inequities in early childhood development. This newsletter celebrates exactly that, showcasing our initiatives and resources that drive evidence-informed action for equitable outcomes - and trying to give a voice to all perspectives.

This edition features:

  • A new article from the Education & Learning team on deep listening in practice
  • The latest evidence from Restacking the Odds about how school leadership can effectively improve early education services
  • A new resource guide bringing together the Centre's work to support those working in and with place-based initiatives
  • The value of incorporating the voice of families through the Australian Childhood Deafness Research Community Advisory Group.

Thank you for joining us for another year as we work towards seeing every child thrive.

Warm regards

Prof Sharon Goldfeld AM
Director, Centre for Community Child Health
