Welcome to the Barnet Together Community Organisation Support Newsletter from Inclusion Barnet (5 May 2022).

With the Bank Holiday we've just had, and less than a month until the double Bank Holiday in celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee it's tough squeezing the work in!  Once again, I've pulled together a selection of funding, training and other opportunities which I think will interest you.  If there's nothing quite right for you then do get in touch and I'll do my best to help find what you're looking for.

Church Grants and Jewish Grants

We have just renewed our subscriptions to Church Grants and Jewish Grants. Across these two databases are 100s of Trusts and Foundations who are keen to support Churches/Christian organisations and Jewish organisations.

Do get in touch if your organisation falls into any of these categories so I can find those most likely to support you and your projects.

Text in red: The W G Edwards Charitable Foundation

The W G Edwards Charitable Foundation is an independent grant-making charity, which assists with the provision of care and aims to improve the wellbeing of older people in the UK.  Their grants are loosely divided into Health and Community categories:

Health and welfare: The Foundation gives grants for refurbishment of residential care housing for the elderly and for building projects which are nearing completion. Trustees also consider the provision of equipment and furniture to enhance care and improve quality of life.

Community and innovation: The Foundation supports community initiatives for the over-65s such as exercise classes, horticultural projects and musical therapy. We also consider grants for technology projects aimed at benefitting the over-65s, however we do not fund IT for staff or volunteers.

The deadline for applications for the July meeting is Friday 10 June.

Music for All

A new round of funding is open for applications from community projects and individuals, for 5 programmes:

1) David Hughes piano or keyboard award (community project).

2) David Hughes piano or keyboard award (individual).

3) Projects supporting those with learning or cognitive issues.

4) Projects which are based on electric guitars.

5) Recording session with the University of Surrey for diverse community groups.

The closing date for this round of award applications will be 27th May 2022.

Opportunity: DIVERSO – Improving Career Futures for Young People with Learning Difficulties in London

The future for young people is looking tough. Even more so for those marginalised communities – less than 6% of people with a learning difficulty are in paid employment but over 65% want to work. But it shouldn’t be – and needn’t be!

The DIVERSO project is supporting young people with learning difficulties in London colleges to improve their early career development by supporting Small & Medium Employers in London to offer them encounters with the world of work. You may not have loads of experience with this group, but that’s okay. Diverso will provide all the support and training you need to provide a hugely valuable experience to a group that needs your help.

4 encounters with employers increases their chance of employment by 100% - you are that difference.

Events: The Queen's Platinum Jubilee 2022

This year sees Her Majesty The Queen become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. To mark this historic 70-year reign, celebrations will take place across Britain over an extended bank holiday weekend. From Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June, the nation will come together to celebrate this landmark event. And just as in previous jubilee years we expect Barnet to be a blaze of colour.

Over 100 applications have been received for street parties, and there are plenty of public community events to take part. Take a look at what's happening.

If you are planning any events which you want adding to the Council's website and PR email strategy@barnet.gov.uk
