Nearly 47 Million Americans Could Potentially Be Exposed to Health Hazards Because They Live Within a Mile of Fossil Fuel Infrastructure

A first-of-its-kind study led by Jonathan Buonocore and Mary Willis found that more than 14 percent of people in the contiguous US—largely urban and non-White residents—live within a mile of at least one type of fossil fuel infrastructure, from power plants and refineries to less-visible underground gas storage facilities.
