Upcoming night works

Night works are programmed for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights next week to prepare for final road surfacing north of the roundabout.

Manual stop/go traffic control and a temporary speed limit of 30km/hr will be in place from the top of the hill south to the roundabout between 7pm - 5am.

Night works are also programmed for Sunday 18 April to remove the temporary barriers on the northern side of the roundabout to allow the team to construct the traffic island.

Due to the location of the temporary barriers, manual traffic control will include SH1 and SH15 traffic. Works will get underway at 7pm and are expected to be completed by 1am.

Traffic will then shift into the final layout, with the traffic island construction area separating the northbound and southbound lanes north of the roundabout.

Construction works this month

Footpath construction

Concrete is scheduled the week commencing 12 April for constructing footpaths near the roundabout. There will be road shoulder closures during the day while the work is undertaken.

Traffic island construction north of roundabout

Traffic island construction will occur throughout the week commencing 19 April, weather permitting. While no stop/go traffic control is planned, there may need to be rolling traffic blocks to allow concrete trucks to safely access the works area.

Road sealing eastern side of SH1 north of the roundabout

Final road surfacing is programmed for the week commencing 19 April, weather permitting. Works will occur behind barriers, so no manual traffic control is required. There will be, however, short periods with rolling traffic blocks for sealing the edges that join the existing road.

To help compact metal and also to settle the chipseal, southbound traffic is expected to be shifted on to the new southbound lane during off-peak hours 1-2 days either side of the road sealing.

Shoulder widening on Otaika Valley Road

Sealing of the widened shoulders on Otaika Valley Road is also programmed to occur the week commencing 19 April. This will only take a few hours and will require manual traffic control at the intersection with Loop Road/SH15.

Sign installation

New road signage is scheduled for installation throughout April.
