As we celebrate and reflect on the Reformation, LCANZ Bishop Paul Smith invites us to consider anew what it means to be Lutheran – people who point always to Christ and his cross. ‘Reformation is the time of the church year when we recommit ourselves to be people of the gospel,’ Bishop Paul says. ‘We recommit ourselves to the mission that God gives us, to find good ways to share the good news of Jesus Christ with friends, neighbours, family members and work colleagues.’

Ordained 19 January 1969 (Maitland SA); served Ropeley Qld (1969–1972), Brisbane Hospital Chaplaincy Qld (1972–1974), Family Life Support Service Director (1991–1995), Rosebud Vic (1995–2000); retired 31 October 2000; died 21 October 2025 (The Basin Vic); funeral to be confirmed; mourned by children Andrew, Nigel and Karen and their families

 
 
 
 
 
 

SPECIAL CONVENTION OF GENERAL SYNOD

On Saturday 18 October, 300 delegates from across the LCANZ gathered online for a Special Convention of General Synod. Established by resolution of the October 2024 Regular Convention, the meeting was held to address business carried over from the 2024 Synod, along with consideration of a new doctrinal statement on ordination.
