Kenepuru

Work continues at multiple sites on Kenepuru Road between Linkwater and the Heads

At three adjacent sites approximately 3km before the Mahau Road turn-off crews are completing pavement construction and chip seal. This week crews have mobilised to a fourth site approximately 3.5km prior to the Mahau Road turnoff to progress a road retreat.

On Kenepuru Road, between the Mahau Road intersection and Te Mahia Bay, crews are working across four work sites. This week, crews are constructing a MSE wall, undertaking retreat excavation, installing tie backs, and constructing pavements.

A construction closure incorporating these work sites is in place on Kenepuru Road between property numbers 955 and 2067 until Friday 19 December 2025. Please note this closure is allowing multiple road improvements to be completed concurrently and safely.

The closures are in place on the below days/times:

  • Monday to Thursday from 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 5pm.
  • Friday from 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 3.30pm.

  • Friday from 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 3.30pm.

At the midday opening, as long as vehicles are at their nearest closure point by 12.30pm, crews will ensure traffic does not get stuck between these two closures on Kenepuru Road. This applies whether vehicles are travelling from Linkwater to the Heads or from the Heads to Linkwater.

Please note that residents between the closure points will not be permitted through closure gates until the lunchtime opening. This is an important safety measure due to the multiple work sites in operation and truck deliveries between these sites throughout the day.

Work is progressing to replace the Waitaria Bay jetty. The existing gravel boat ramp is closed to users until the end of January 2026.

---------------------------------------------------

On Thursday 4 December from 2pm to 4pm, a public drop-in session will be held at Portage Resort. This will be an opportunity for the community to discuss work in the Kenepuru with members of the Marlborough Roads Recovery Team.  From 12pm on Thursday 4 December there will be no construction closures in place on Kenepuru Road to allow people to attend this drop-in session.
