NEWS AND UPDATESOff the Track WA and Retired Racehorses Return to Ascot Super Maxi and Ocean’s Fifteen, returning to Ascot after retirement, dazzled in the parade alongside seasoned pro, Mervyn. The Off the Track WA parade highlighted the versatility and trainability of retired Thoroughbreds after racing, This was a fantastic opportunity to showcase retired racehorses and promote our initiatives. As of March 2025, over 4,850 retired racehorses are registered with an OTTWA Passport, nearing our 2025 goal of 5,000! GREYHOUNDS AS PETS - APRIL ADOPTION MONTHMeet your potential forever ‘hound at the GAP Adoption Day on April 5. With their social, friendly natures Greyhounds make wonderful companions and suit a variety of homes. GAP can’t wait to welcome future adopters to our Southern River facility to meet our gorgeous greyhounds. Submit your Adoption Application to get started! NETWORK RETRAININGFollowing the successful launch of our Network Retrainer program, we are excited to expand our team of dedicated network retrainers. Our aim is to bridge the gap between racing and retiring horses into equestrian pursuits. If you have experience in retraining racehorses into off the track careers, stay tuned this month for more information! An expression of interest form for new Network Retrainers will be released in April.

We are thrilled to announce three competitors setting off across the country this month to compete on their retired racehorses. Charlee Morton-Sharp will once again return to the eastern states with brothers, Super Maxi and Ocean's Fifteen. Ellie Gough sets off with Azugo, looking to repeat her successful trip from 2024. Azugo won the Best Performed Off the Track Horse award at Melbourne 3DE in 2024 and has his sights set on Adelaide in 2025. Isobel Stevens-Menzie and Distribute are ready to tackle Adelaide Equestrian Festival after their trip to Melbourne last year. We are eager to support these three riders as they compete on their retired racehorses, highlighting their versatility, adaptability and trainability across the country. Pride of Merisi will also join Charlee's team to compete at Melbourne International Three-Day Event. OTTWA RETRAINING AND REHOMING PROGRAMThe following horses are available through the OTTWA Retraining and Rehoming program. These horses have received vet checks, dental care, body work, and regular handling since retiring from racing. With the support of OTTWA Retrainers, they are now ready to begin their off-the-track careers. Prices for each horse can be found on their individual advertisements here... |
