Road closure and detour

SH1 will be closed for up to 7 nights between Monday 20 October to Thursday 30 October, from 6pm to 5:30am. The closure will not be in place from Friday 24 to Monday 27 October, over the long weekend.

SH1 will be fully operational all other times.

A detour route will be in place, via Loop Road, as shown in the diagram below. This detour adds no additional time to the journey. This route is suitable for light and regular heavy freight vehicles (truck and trailer, artics, curtain siders etc.)

Over-dimensional vehicles

Over-dimensional vehicles will not be able to travel on this route unless they can determine themselves able to cross the detoured single lane bridges. Therefore, over-dimensional vehicles will not be able to travel during this closure period.

Residents

Oaks Road residents and SH1 residents within the closure are to exit Oaks Road (at night) heading south down SH1 until they reach the road closure, they will exit out of the closure through the ‘Resident only exit’ and merge into the traffic.

About these works

This closure is required for the final asphalt surfacing on the southbound and northbound lanes, as part of the final phase of the project, due to be completed around mid-November this year.

Night work reduces the impact on SH1 by concentrating work during low traffic volumes. The asphalting work requires a closure to ensure the quality of the better finish and to reduce the overall disruption. Additional closures will be required over October and November to complete the remaining work but have yet to have dates confirmed.
