As Tropical Cyclone Alfred is already beginning to impact our region, it is expected that many businesses in Redlands Coast will be affected. Minister declaration A Minister declaration is in place for Tropical Cyclone Alfred - notified as an event for affected Local Government Areas under section 275E of the Planning Act 2016 (the Planning Act) - 5 March 2025 until 19 March 2025 (inclusive). In essence, this legislative change allows a business to change their ‘normal’ operations to factor in disaster response and provides an opportunity to support temporary solutions for residents and businesses displaced or affected from the flooding, or temporary operations to support clean-up activities. Importance of sharing business impacts While your focus right now is on preparing for Tropical Cyclone Alfred, post event, it will be very important to capture and share the impacts of the event on your business. Your information and insight will help identify and prioritise the supportive recovery action government needs to take. There are a number of industry surveys already in circulation, and there will be more released in the coming week. Please take the time to complete any surveys that are relevant to your business and your industry. Local Economic Recovery Team As part of the Redland City Local Recovery Group structure, a specific Economic Recovery Team (sub-group) has been established. Team membership includes three local business chambers, numerous state agencies across various industries, and economic development and tourism staff from Council. This team will be responsible for managing and coordinating issues relating to the financial and economic recovery as it relates to business impact, industry impact and worker impact. This includes stimulating the renewal and growth of the economy, and facilitating business assistance. A key role of the team will be to ensure effective connection with the business community across Redlands Coast to inform required action and support. Post event, when full impacts of the disaster are known and understood, there will be further information available on the actions of the team and the support available.
