First-ever Riverfest reconnects campus community with the Deshkan Ziibiing

This month, Western celebrates the Deshkan Ziibiing (Antler/Thames River) with Riverfest 2022. The festival recognizes the historical and cultural significance of the river and aims to engage the community and encourage support for sustainability initiatives.  

Medical student inspired by health-care pioneer

Gavin Raner is one of 13 students across Canada to receive the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Award recognizing young leaders who exemplify the qualities of Hall of Fame laureates. Raner, who identifies as trans-masculine and non-binary, is inspired by the "quiet bravery" of 2007 inductee and pioneer Dr. Elizabeth Bagshaw.

A collaborative Western - University of Waterloo research project looks to identify and treat ‘forever chemicals’ found in Ontario waters and used in products such as cosmetics, textiles, fire-fighting foams and food packaging.

Student turns passion for cars into successful repair, sales business

When the pandemic first hit, then second-year political science student Nour Habliza, rented a small, one-bay mechanic shop and turned his passion for cars into a successful repair and sales business. Today he spends his time at the shop studying for the LSAT with hopes to attend Western Law. 

Student TikToker raises awareness around ADHD

Biology student Olivia Lutfallah has attracted 236,000 followers and found a supportive community since launching her TikTok account documenting her experience living with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

COVID-19 booster deadline extended following Health Canada announcement 
In response to Health Canada’s approval of Moderna’s bivalent vaccine, the deadline to receive a booster shot has been extended to Jan. 9, 2023. Individuals who receive a booster now or the bivalent vaccine when it is available will be compliant with the vaccination policy.
