SLEP Receives Gold Award from IEDCThe Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership has been awarded Gold by the International Economic Development Council in the Economic Equity & Inclusion category. This recognition celebrates the impact of the Sarnia-Lambton Newcomer Connection program, which supported 469 newcomers and 150 local employers from April 2023 to March 2024. The award highlights the strength of community collaboration and the region’s commitment to inclusive
economic growth.

10 Local Businesses Awarded Starter Company Plus Grants Ten Sarnia-Lambton entrepreneurs have been selected for the 2025 Starter Company Plus program, each receiving up to $5,000 in funding, tailored training, and one-on-one support through SLEP’s Business Enterprise Centre. Representing industries from bridal fashion and cafés to health, recreation, and advanced manufacturing, these businesses are creating jobs, filling community needs, and contributing to a stronger local economy. Free 8-Week Business Planning for Entrepreneurial Success Course Intake Now Open Applications are now open for the free 8-week Business Planning for Entrepreneurial Success workshop, led by Chelsey Hart, Executive Coach and Founder of Your Initiative Co. Starting October 7 at the Western Sarnia-Lambton Research Park, sessions run Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. The program helps entrepreneurs create a clear, actionable plan to guide growth and strengthen their business. Space is limited to 20 participants.

Funding and Government Grant Programs for Sarnia-Lambton Businesses SLEP connects local businesses with grants, incentives, and programs designed to support growth, investment, and job creation in Sarnia-Lambton. From provincial and federal programs to local Community Improvement Plans, our team provides one-on-one support to identify the right opportunities and guide you through the application process. Active intakes currently include SWODF, FedDev Ontario, Skills Development Fund, Ontario Centre of Innovation, and the Rural Ontario Development
Program.

Women Building Futures Launches First Ontario Program in Sarnia-Lambton Sarnia-Lambton is proud to host the first Ontario cohort of the Women Ready to Work in Automotive program, delivered by Women Building Futures. Over eight weeks, participants gain technical training, safety certifications, and workplace readiness skills, followed by a paid work placement that provides hands-on industry experience and a direct path to
employment. For Sarnia-Lambton, the program develops a skilled talent pool of women prepared to enter high-demand trades, supporting workforce growth and contributing to the region’s economic strength.

IDEA Leadership Academy: Free Training for Employers SLEP invites local employers to register for the IDEA Leadership Academy, a free, self-paced training program designed to help organizations build more inclusive, diverse, equitable, and accessible workplaces. This interactive program equips leaders with tools to improve hiring outcomes, strengthen team performance, and foster innovation, while supporting regional efforts to attract newcomers and grow the workforce. Access Support Through the Sarnia-Lambton Newcomer Hub The Sarnia-Lambton Newcomer Hub is here to help Permanent Residents settle, establish, and thrive in Canada. Through four core pillars: career support, mentorship, soft skills training, and entrepreneurial guidance, the Hub equips newcomers with the tools and confidence to succeed. Funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, this community-wide initiative connects newcomers with meaningful employment, business opportunities, and local networks, while strengthening the region’s workforce.

FedDev Ontario - Funding for Businesses in Southern OntarioIntake now open!
Skills Development Fund - Training Stream Application deadline is on October 1, 2025.
Ontario Centre of Innovation Digitalization Competence Centre ProgramsMost OCI programs operate on a rolling or continuous intake basis, allowing applications to be submitted year-round as funding remains available.
Rural Ontario Development Program The first intake opened on 24 June 2025 and closes on September 24, 2025. Business stream is open until funds are allocated, with applications assessed as received.
Southwestern Ontario Development FundApplication Period 20 runs from June 19, 2025, to September 17, 2025.
Ontario Together Trade FundIntake is Now Open. The intake period is continuous, which means applicants can submit their application at any time while the program is open.
Regional Tariff Response Initiative in southern OntarioFedDev Ontario is accepting applications on a continuous basis. The RTRI supports businesses and sectors impacted by tariffs through projects that can be executed in the timeframe of this initiative (March 2025 to March 2028).
