House E&C Subcommittee Advances Six Bipartisan Telecom Bills

The Communications and Technology Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC), advanced six bills by voice vote Tuesday, sending them toward full Energy and Commerce consideration. Two matter most to infrastructure builders: the PLAN for Broadband Act (Walberg-Peters), directing NTIA to craft a national strategy to close the digital divide—improving coordination across the 100-plus federal broadband programs and the federal permitting process and cutting administrative burdens on state and local participants—and the SAT Streamlining Act (Guthrie-Pallone), which would put a one-year FCC shot clock on satellite license applications, renewals and minor modifications, with a "deemed granted" backstop if the agency misses the deadline. The package also included the GUARD Act, the Foreign Robocall Elimination Act, the AI for Secure Networks Act, and the Data BRIDGE Act. Worth flagging for our tracking: Rep. Taylor's House companion to the Accelerating Broadband Permits Act was not part of this markup, and still shows no sign of formal introduction.

FCC Confirms the $2.4B Dish Trust Is Reserved for 5G Buildout Suppliers—as EchoStar Pushes Back
