The art of sticking together

Derived from the French word coller, meaning to stick or glue, the collage medium has a long history of creating artwork through fixing paper, objects, fabric and other materials together in order to find new meaning. But in Waverley, collage has also became about sticking people together- a medium which builds community. This exhibition showcases the work of the group from the last 2 years.

Sketchflash 2023 is the latest exhibition by the Waverley Library Sketchflash group. Sketchflash is an informal creative art group focusing on drawing. Meeting weekly, the group is run by friendly and encouraging group members. Participants provide their own A5 sketchbook and materials while taking turns to facilitate activities and workshops. The sessions usually begin with a warm-up drawing followed by 15-20 minutes of sketching on the week’s theme.

Waverley Council invites the community to learn more about the Uluru Statement From the Heart and the upcoming Voice to Parliament referendum at the Walking Together workshops delivered by co-creators Nicole Laupepa and Jacqui Parker.

The Walking Together workshop immerses participants in what it takes to walk together using the Uluru Statement from the Heart as an educational framework. The workshop facilitates knowledge, understanding, and a sense of purpose for non-Indigenous Australia to walk together with First Nations people.

Train the Trainer workshop aimed at participants who have completed the Walking Together workshop and would like to become a trainer or presenter of a one-hour introduction to both the Uluru Statement and Voice to Parliament. Participants are provided with resources and knowledge.

Youth Week is an opportunity for community members aged 12 - 24 to express ideas, diversity, and views, create and enjoy activities, and celebrate talents and contributions to community. The events to be held on Sunday 30 April were postponed due to forecast bad weather. The new date is Sunday 25 June 2023. Check out the events happening at Bondi Park and Bondi Pavilion including live music, mural workshop, clothes swap stall, skate comp, and pop-up DJ workshop.
