New commitments to address, prevent gender-based and sexual violence

Steps Western is taking in response to two newly released reports include fully re-evaluating Orientation Week activities; appointing a special advisor to address campus culture and safety; and requiring all incoming students to complete gender-based and sexual violence prevention and awareness training before arriving on campus this fall.

With the belief that entrepreneurship is a process that can be taught, the Morrissette Institute for Entrepreneurship has launched The Founder’s Journey, an Entrepreneurial Process. The free, eight-module course guides participants through the step-by-step process of nurturing and growing a new venture.

According to a new study led by health sciences professor Tara Mantler and nursing professor Kim Jackson, pandemic-related lockdowns unintentionally exacerbated the risks for women experiencing intimate partner violence.

Post-doc scholar explores hip hop influence on Inuit youth

While many scholars have written about Indigenous hip hop, Raj Singh is one of the few researchers studying it from the perspective of the musicians who create, produce and distribute it. Singh joins the Don Wright Faculty of Music this fall as one of this year’s successful scholars funded by the Western Research post-doctoral fellowships program.

New study shows significant gains from computer-based depression treatment

A new international collaborative study, co-authored by Schulich Medicine & Dentistry professor Shehzad Ali, has found computer-based cognitive behavioural therapy has significantly greater impact in treating depression among adults than treatment as usual.

Six Ukrainian students recently joined Ivey Business School on an exchange program made possible through the Academic Shelter Program, extending support to students fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.

Call to join Spring 2022 convocation academic procession
Spring convocation takes place June 13 to 24, 2022, for Western’s 2022 graduates, and July 4 to 8 for those who graduated in 2020 and 2021. Members of faculty, Senate, the Board of Governors, and emeriti professors/archivists/librarians are invited to take part in the academic procession. Ceremonies will be in-person and subject to COVID-19 health and safety guidelines. For information on joining the academic procession, please email convosec@uwo.ca.

Bring your own gardening tools and join the Friends of the Gardens (FOGS) to plant a few specimens in the pollinator garden on campus. FOGS is a group of volunteers who help create a more pollinator-friendly campus. Leftover plants will be available for purchase by cash only.

Registration open for 2022 summer day camps
Western is once again offering in-person summer day camps. Participants must be five years of age or older and will be required to follow COVID-19 health and safety measures. There are several camps to choose from based on age and interests.
