State Highway 88 safety improvement project
We are emailing to update you on the Safe Roads project on SH88 between Dunedin to Port Chalmers. The project is taking place in two stages.
We expect to start stage one of the safety work on SH88 in mid to late August, with safety barriers being installed at high-risk sites at St Leonards, Blanket Bay and the Roseneath cutting. SH88 will be down to one lane at times, with stop/go traffic management and a 30km/h speed restriction in place to allow contractors to carry out the work. The work will be scheduled outside peak traffic hours to reduce the impact on traffic however there will be delays at times. We advise motorists travelling between Dunedin and Port Chalmers to allow an extra five minutes to get to their destination.
Stage two will start next year at the same time as the Shared Path for cyclists and pedestrians gets underway. As part of stage two, we are looking at how to make the SH88/Finch Street intersection safer and will come back to you and the wider community with further information about possible options later this year.
A newsletter (see link) is being delivered to residents this week to provide further information on the project and of the upcoming construction work. Radio, print and social medial adverts are also planned.
We are keen to ensure that those who regularly use the route are aware of the road works coming up, so please publicise the information or forward the newsletter to anyone you think would benefit from receiving it.
