Marlborough Roads Recovery Update |

Following the wet weather over Labour Weekend, there are areas of increased damage throughout the recovery zones. Road users are advised to drive with caution and to the conditions. Kenepuru Road from Onahau Road to the Heads, and its side roads remains restricted to residents, emergency and essential services. Work continues at several sites along this stretch of road. Daytime closures continue on Kenepuru Road, 20km from the start of the road from Onahau Road, where work on a retaining wall at the Water Tank Slip site is underway. Closures are planned on weekdays from 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 5pm, with a 3.30pm finish on Fridays. Moetapu Bay Road remains closed to all traffic from 9am to 3pm, with openings on the hour until Friday 15 November, for work to be undertaken at two sites. Closures are planned on Moenui Road, 150m from the start of the road, from Tuesday 12 November for drainage improvements. Ronga Road is closed tonight, Thursday 7 November from 6pm to 6am, approximately 10km from the start of the road. Please see the road closure section for more information on the above closures. Work continues on multiple construction sites in the French Pass. The new bridge upstream of the current temporary bailey bridge on Waihopai Valley Road is progressing with the bridge superstructure taking form. Please ensure you keep to the reduced temporary speed limits when travelling through worksites to ensure the safety of our crews and road users. We thank you for your patience. Road closures |

Kenepuru Road - Water Tank slip Kenepuru Road from the Onahau Road intersection is closed to all traffic from 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 5pm Monday to Thursday. On Friday the closure will be in place from 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 3.30pm. The closures are for the construction of a 98m retaining wall at the Water Tank slip site, along with drainage upgrades and road reinstatement. The road closure timings will be reviewed after the first stage of works are completed. Outside of the closure days and times, works will be carried out under stop/go traffic management with up to 15 minute delays. If you have any concerns, please contact recovery@marlboroughroads.com. --------------------------------------------------- Moenui Road - Queen Charlotte Drive Moenui Road, 150m from the start the road for approximately 250m will be closed to all traffic for culvert installation and drainage improvements, at the following dates and times:
Outside of these times, work will be carried out under stop/go traffic management, please expect delays. --------------------------------------------------- Moetapu Bay Road Moetapu Bay Road, 1.6km from the start of the road is closed to all traffic, on weekdays from 9am to 3pm with hourly openings. These closures are planned to be in place until mid December, for a second site to be completed. Outside of the closure dates and times outlined above, work will be carried out under stop/go traffic management. Please expect delays. --------------------------------------------------- Port Underwood Road Port Underwood Road, between the Port Underwood Lookout and Tumbledown Bay Road intersection, will be closed from Monday 18 to Friday 22 November, 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 4pm. These works are for the installation of a culvert, drainage improvements and pavement reinstatement. --------------------------------------------------- Ronga Road - French Pass night closures Ronga Road, 10km from the start of the road will be closed to all traffic tonight between 6pm and 6am, Thursday 7 November. This closure is to complete the installation of box culvert sections that traverse the road. --------------------------------------------------- Tepuia Heights - Queen Charlotte Drive From Friday 22 November to Friday 13 December, daytime construction closures will be in place on Tepuia Heights on weekdays between 10am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 4pm. These closures are for the upgrade of culverts, other stormwater upgrades and road reinstatement works. Work will be completed outside of these times under stop/go traffic management, please expect delays. |

Kenepuru Road Restrictions |
||
Kenepuru Road from Onahau Road to the Heads, and its side roads, Moetapu Bay Road and Te Mahia Road continue to be restricted to residents, emergency and essential services. These roads have severe storm damage and entry into this section of Kenepuru Road is at resident and emergency or essential service drivers' discretion. Residents only are permitted to walk and cycle on roads which are restricted to residents. The following vehicle restrictions remain on Kenepuru Road from Linkwater to the Heads: Vehicle RestrictionsVehicles up to 12.6m in length, and 6 tonne in weight can travel on Kenepuru Road and the following side roads; Mahau Road, Torea Road and Moetapu Bay Road as far as Double Bay Reserve. This allows residents access to boat launching areas at Double Bay Reserve, Torea and Portage. On all other side roads, between Kenepuru Road to the Heads no vehicles over 8m in length or 3.5 tonne in weight are permitted. The following restrictions also apply on Kenepuru Road and it's side roads including Moetapu Bay Road;

Extreme care should be exercised and daylight driving only is strongly recommended. Resident Definition:The definition of a resident, in terms of who is able to access roads restricted to resident and emergency services is; A permanent resident, owner of a holiday home/bach, or the owner of a commercial interest. It does not include visitors who are hiring or renting a holiday home or bach, where rental arrangements have been made through either a property letting agency or directly with the owner. For a full list of what is deemed an emergency or essential service visit the Council's website. Other Recovery RoadsPlease be aware that on all roads, including those with public access, there may be areas of works and traffic management in place. Please expect delays and follow all signage and traffic management. Heavy rain may lead to roads needing to be closed urgently. No matter the status of the road, drive to the conditions. Awatere |

Awatere Valley Road, 3.8km from Limestone is open to all traffic, after urgent remedial works were completed to replace a culvert and complete road reinstatement works last week. The road is open to one lane at the site of a large under slip, approximately 2km up the valley from Jordan Bridge. Assessments are underway at this site for repairs to be undertaken. Drivers are urged to travel with caution and follow all traffic management signage. |

French Pass |

The new retaining wall, 5km from Okiwi Bay on the Croisilles-French Pass Road is taking shape.This week the crew has finished installing timber lagging and walers (horizontal support beams). The crew will now start backfilling the wall and begin the reno mattress (wire basket similar to a gabion used for structural support). The traffic lights at this site will be removed once the remedial works have been completed. Minor drainage repairs and improvements on Croisilles Road are on track to be completed next week. Progress continues on the installation of a box culvert and MSE (mechanically stablised earth) wall on Ronga Road, 10km from the start of the road. Bulk earthworks are underway for the road retreat and the first three sections of the culvert have been installed. Work to complete further excavation and install the sections of the culvert that traverse the road, was completed under night closure this week. Tonight Thursday 7 November, Ronga Road will remain closed to all traffic from 6pm to 6am to complete the culvert installation. Work outside of tonight’s closure will be carried out under stop/go traffic management with delays of up to 20 minutes. |

Daytime closures remain on Kenepuru Road, from Onahau Road, Monday to Thursday from 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 5pm. On Fridays the closure will be in place from 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 3.30pm. These closures are for the construction of a retaining wall, drainage improvements and road reinstatement, 20km from the start of the road at the Water Tank slip site. Please refer to the road closure section for further information. Progress continues on the new retaining wall at Water Tank slip. The face of the retaining wall is taking shape as the crew continue to install the timber lagging. These works will continue over the next few weeks due to the span of the wall. The new retaining wall near Torea prior to Portage on Kenepuru Road is nearing completion. The wall has been backfilled and preparations for pavement construction are now underway. Sealing is scheduled for mid-November following handrail and sight rail installation. Daytime construction closures on Moetapu Bay Road, 1.6km from the start of the road are in place on weekdays from 9am to 3pm with hourly openings. Please refer to the road closure section for further information. Bulk excavation works have been completed for the road retreat at the Driftwood Corner site at the start of Moetapu Bay Road. The crew is now preparing for kerb and channel works and pavement construction. Work is scheduled to begin at a second site, approximately 200m along the road at Elephant Point. Work at both sites will be undertaken outside of the closure times, under stop/go traffic management. Please expect delays. |

Work to clear slip material that fell on Labour Weekend has continued this week on Queen Charlotte Drive, 1km prior to Moenui Road when travelling from Havelock. Work to install a willow brush wall continues on Tepuia Heights at the Queen Charlotte end. Drainage and road reinstatement work began this week on Moenui Road, 150m from the start of the road for approximately 250m. From Tuesday 12 November these works will require daily construction closures at the following dates and times.
For further information, please refer to the road closure section of this newsletter. From Tuesday 19 November drainage improvement works including multiple culvert installations and road reinstatement, is planned to start on Tepuia Heights. This work will require construction closures for culvert installations on weekdays from Friday 22 November to Friday 13 December, from 10am to 4pm with a lunchtime opening. Please keep to the reduced temporary speed limits when you're travelling through our worksites to ensure the safety of crews and road users. We thank you for your patience. |

Heavy rain over Labour Weekend bought down a significant slip on Kaiuma Bay Road, 13km from Daltons Bridge. The road is open to one lane. Once the upslope of the slip settles, an assessment of the site will be completed for repairs to be undertaken. Drivers are urged to travel with caution and follow all traffic management signage at this site. Rock revetment work is planned to start at Dalton's Bridge next week. Please expect increased truck movements in the area. |

Waihopai Valley |
||
Progress continues on the new bridge on Waihopai Valley Road. The bridge deck is nearing completion with six of the seven deck spans now installed. The new road alignment connecting the existing road with the new bridge is underway. The crew will begin carting gravel across the temporary bailey bridge next week once river levels subside. This will increase road traffic over the coming four weeks. The current bailey bridge will continue to operate as crews build the new bridge. Please expect increased activity around this area. |
