Updated LFP Payment Schedule

Doctors of BC and BC Family Doctors continue to work with the Ministry of Health to refine and improve the Longitudinal Family Physician (LFP) Payment Model. We continue to listen to your feedback and adjust the payment model to address your concerns. To submit questions or feedback, please email FP.Billing@doctorsofbc.ca.

In this newsletter, we are providing information on the following:

  • Updated LFP Payment Schedule
  • Upcoming clinic-based billing webinar series
  • New MSP/Teleplan explanatory codes

Updated LFP Payment Schedule – effective July 1, 2025

A new payment schedule has been released effective July 1, 2025.

The payment schedule includes an extension of the Transition Code (98001) and Transition Form process until March 31, 2026.

  • This allows physicians to identify that they will be providing more than 30% of their clinic-based care to non-panel patients while they transition their practice to meet the payment model requirements.
  • The updated LFP Payment Schedule will also require family physicians who still require an exception in 2026 to resubmit the Transition Code and Transition Form between January 1 and March 31, 2026.
  • Read more in this BC Family Doctors’ news article (member login required).

In addition, a couple minor clarifications have been made:

  • Update to the list of Hospital at Home fees that are billable under fee-for-service. Learn more about Hospital at Home fee updates in this BC Family Doctors' news article (member login required).
  • Removal of FPSC network fee codes (14086, 14010) as these are now claimed by submitting an FPSC claim form annually. Read more about the Assigned Inpatient Care Network Payment and Maternity Care Network Payment.

We recommend reviewing the updated LFP Payment Schedule in its entirety to ensure that you are billing accurately. BC Family Doctors’ web resources, including the Simplified LFP Guide, have been updated to reflect all of the changes in the payment schedule.

Upcoming LFP Payment Model billing education: Clinic-based webinar series

Family doctors and residents are invited to an upcoming LFP billing education webinar series that will focus on billing in clinic-based settings.

Presented by FPSC Billing Support and BC Family Doctors, these physician-led, 90-minute webinars will guide physicians through enrolment and eligibility, billing LFP time and interaction codes, panel payments, and practicing as an LFP Locum.

Join us on Thursday evenings at 6pm for the following webinars this fall:

  • September 18: Clinic-based Time Codes | Register
  • September 25: Clinic-based Interaction Codes | Register
  • October 2: LFP Panel Payment | Register
  • October 9: LFP Locum | Register

Registered physicians will receive a link to the prerequisite Eligibility and Enrolment billing video in late August. Please watch this video before attending the webinars. There will be dedicated time at the beginning of the webinar on September 18 for your questions about this topic.

As space is limited, registration is open to family physicians and residents only. For those interested in viewing the webinar recordings after the sessions, they will be shared on the Doctors of BC YouTube channel.

Four new MSP/Teleplan LFP explanatory codes

MSP/Teleplan has four new explanatory codes for common LFP billing errors among physicians. Explanatory codes accompany payment rejections or reductions to provide physicians with the reason for their billing not being fully paid.

  • PM: Subsequent LFP interactions on the same day/same patient require a note with the clinical reason.
  • PN: Only one time code can be paid for the same 15 minutes.
  • PS: This LFP procedure is not payable in addition to an in-person interaction on the same day.
  • PT: Only one procedure code is payable per patient per day, except for 98022/98052.

The full list of explanatory codes can be found on the Ministry of Health website.

You can read more about these new LFP explanatory codes with practical examples on the BC Family Doctors website (member login required). If you have questions, email FP.Billing@doctorsofbc.ca.
