Our East Riding and Hull 0-19 Integrated Public Health Nursing Teams have been awarded the highly coveted UNICEF Baby Friendly Gold Award. This is the first year the Hull team have applied for the award, and we are incredibly proud to say that they achieved it first time. UNICEF UK’s Achieving Sustainability standards are designed to help services to embed Baby Friendly care for the long term. When services are assessed as not only meeting all of the criteria, but demonstrating them being truly embedded within their practice, they can be accredited as a Gold Baby Friendly service. Gold is the highest level of accreditation and celebrates excellent and sustained practice in the support of infant feeding and parent-infant relationships. Our Trust recognises the importance of supporting and celebrating Black Breastfeeding Week, an awareness week held annually from August 25-31. This year’s theme is ‘Listen Up! Reclaiming our narrative and centring stories for breastfeeding justice’. The theme recognises the power of narrative shift and amplifies story telling as a key catalyst for equality and justice in lactation. We invite you to share your stories and experiences as our Trust’s 0-19 ISHPN/IPHN service, East Riding of Yorkshire Council Children Centres and York St Johns University team up to deliver a webinar, 28th of August 2024 between 1-2pm. We have invited a panel of black professionals from key health and education services who will facilitate the webinar, listen to your stories, and answer any questions you may have. The aim of the webinar is to give black women a voice and so that professionals can listen and begin to understand what is needed to address inequalities in breastfeeding support and services. The podcast episodes are hosted by Mez Sanders-Green, Senior Youth Recovery & Wellbeing Practitioner at the Youth Recovery & Wellbeing College. You can now listen to episode 1 on our YouTube channel. It highlights how young people have worked with practitioners to shape mental health support work at their school and influence the delivery and practice across Hull. This episode is entitled, “I was an iceberg but now that’s melted away…” and can now be viewed on our YouTube channel here. Our Trust held the first HumberFest event on Sunday 11 August 2024 with over 200 staff members and their families attending the fun day. The event set out to thank staff for an exceptional staff survey result this year and fundraise for Trust Charity Health Stars. Offering families a wide range of fun activities including hook-a-duck and coconut shy stalls, face painting, bouncy castles and tug of war competitions. There were also a range of food and drink options, with tickets providing all attendees with a tasty lunch from the BBQ. The inaugural event was held at Mercure Grange Park Hotel in Willerby on one of the sunniest days so far during this summer holiday. Attendees enjoyed the variety of stalls and the chance to meet colleagues in an informal environment. One attendee said, “What a fantastic event, the weather definitely helps, but I have loved the opportunity to meet with colleagues and my children have thoroughly enjoyed all the games and stalls”. Friends and Family Test The Friends and Family Test (FFT) is an important feedback tool that supports the fundamental principle that people who use NHS services should have the opportunity to provide feedback on their experience. It provides a mechanism to highlight patient experience and is vital in transforming NHS services, supporting patient choice and implementing changes based on your feedback. Each month we will be sharing patient experiences from our different services, alongside a patient comment. 94.87% of respondents thought staff were friendly and helpful Humber Primary Care in July. "As always, excellent service and very caring staff." Engagement Opportunities Humber Youth Action Group (HYAG) Do you know of any young people that might like to help us shape and improve our services at Humber through co-production? If so, please encourage them to join HYAG where young people aged 11-25 come together and tell us their thoughts, ideas and opinions about our services - they are truly making a difference. By joining, young people can interview new staff members, design new websites and marketing materials, develop their C/V, make new friends, and understand how the NHS is ran and funded. We understand joining a new group can be scary, that's why our Engagement Manager and Assistant for Children's Services can meet young people before choosing to join to ease any anxiety that they may have and answer any questions before their first meeting. If you would also like to bring any co-production projects or ideas to the group or need help from the HYAG, please email Bethia (Engagement Manager) at bethiadennis@nhs.net or Flick (Engagement Assistant) at felicity.hague@nhs.net. "I recently retired after more than 20 years working in public health, with extensive experience of commissioning sexual health services, infant feeding, health visiting and school nursing services. I am passionate about improving health for all and want to continue to contribute to the development of local health services. I am aware of the existing health inequalities faced by the people of Hull and value this opportunity to represent the population of the city to promote, protect and improve health for all. I was a Hull City of Culture volunteer in 2017, and have continued to take up a wide range of opportunities through HEY volunteering. Since retiring, I have been volunteering at the PATT foundation charity: growing trees, vegetables and flowers, and experiencing the physical and mental benefits of working with the soil. Isabel Carrick, Hull Governor In my commissioning role, I have worked alongside commissioning colleagues and clinical staff at a local, regional and national level. I was vice-chair of the England HIV & Sexual Health Commissioners Group and a member of the national HIV Action Plan Implementation Group. From 2020 I was also part of the local public health response to the Covid pandemic, liaising with residents, schools, care homes and businesses, and volunteering at vaccination and testing centres. I have lengthy voluntary experience of being a committee member, including with the National Childbirth Trust, as a school governor, and member of my church parish council and finance committee. I believe communication is a key skill for a Governor and I am comfortable in a wide range of settings from one-to-one conversations on the street to speaking at national conferences. I am passionate about improving health for all and want to continue to contribute to the development of local health services, and feel the Governor role at Humber NHS Foundation Trust is an ideal opportunity to achieve this. I have been a resident of Hull for 37 years. I am aware of the existing health inequalities faced by the people of Hull and value this opportunity to represent the population of the city to promote, protect and improve health for all. I volunteered with Hull City of Culture in 2017 and I’m still proud to wear the blue uniform as an active HEY volunteer. My hobbies include walking, gardening, reading, Sudoku and crosswords, and days/meals out with family and friends." Your Jobs, Direct to Your Inbox Don't miss out on a great opportunity.
