Building the road between Curletts Road and Tankerville Road

Come and meet the construction team

Kia ora koutou

If you’ve been through the project area recently, you’ll have seen the progress that is being made particularly south of Augustine Drive/Monsaraz Boulevard with much of the new road built.

The majority of the new stormwater and wastewater management systems have been installed providing improved resilience for both Halswell Road and the wider community. This is reflected in the progress graphic further down.

One thing to bear in mind is that final surfacing of the road and line marking are virtually the last things to be done, and currently what you see is not the finished road.  Final surfacing will be completed in stages across the project area, starting later in the year.

The sequencing of construction work is a complicated process. There are many factors we consider when it comes to building a project of this scale, complexity and impact to the community.

Come and discuss the project with the Fulton Hogan team on:
     • Monday 1 September between 11am and noon  or
     • Wednesday 3 September between 3pm and 4pm

at the project compound located on Halswell Road, near the Dunbars Road intersection – look out for the signs.

Read on to find out more about what’s happening on the project.

Keep warm and safe travels.

Ngā mihi/Kind regards
SH75 Halswell Road project team

Between Tankerville Road and Curletts Road

We’ve completed building the southbound lane (except for the final surfacing).
At the Curletts Road intersection, the right turn into Hoon Hay Road is back and the left-most lane is only for left turns into Curletts Road. Look out for signage we put out advising the new road layout. There are also new road markings at the intersection – follow the arrows painted on the road. This is a busy intersection so please drive to the conditions and be aware of what’s happening around you.

Warren Crescent

We started back working on Warren Crescent (west) last month and earlier this month started working on Warren Cresent (east) installing new drainage and water main (pipe), ducting, kerb and channel, new footpaths and building the new road. Also, at Warren Crescent (west) we’ll be installing traffic light foundations and poles.

We need to have a one way traffic management system in place so that we have the space needed to complete the work. For more information see the works notices on upcoming work on the project web page.

Dunbars Road intersection

Last month we installed new traffic signal ducting at the intersection and this month we completed installing the new poles and lanterns (traffic lights).

New traffic light phasing will be introduced in September together with a dedicated left turn lane, replacing the slip lane from Dunbars Road on to Halswell Road.

The left turn lane will enable people using the new signalled pedestrian crossings at the intersection to cross both Dunbars Road and Halswell Road more safely.

New lighting, increased safety

We’ve installed more than 40 of the 50 new streetlights along both sides of the road between Aidanfield Drive and Dunbars Road. Powered by underground cables located in the footpaths and berms, these upgraded energy-efficient LED lights will improve illumination and everyone’s safety.

Ready, set, go... every 10 minutes on Metro bus route 7!

Metro’s Route 7 from Halswell to Queenspark now runs every 10 minutes from 5.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays and every 15 minutes outside of those hours, and on weekends.

Route 7 carries around 4,000 customers per day, which equates to around 1 million customers per year. Five additional buses will be added to the route to service the frequency increase, reducing wait times for customers.

Environment Canterbury’s increase to the frequency of buses on Route 7 is part of a larger collaborative project to improve public transport that includes additional infrastructure delivered in partnership with NZTA and Christchurch City Council. This includes 10 bus stop upgrades, a new bus parking space and continuous bus priority lanes on Halswell Road between Dunbars Road and Curletts Road.
