North of Kukuta Underslip

Our team have been working on the underslip, just north of Kukuta Road since mid-March. We’re currently working on the pavement and making good progress.

Iwi and hapū have been attending our weekly project meetings and this has been a real positive for us. It gives us the opportunity to discuss the work and it gives iwi and hapū a chance to bring up any questions or concerns they might have.

We’re on track, weather permitting, to complete physical work at this site underslip by the end of June.

Auraki Stream Road Retreat

We held a workshop in late-April with Uenuku Charitable Trust and Ngāti Rangi to deliver the current design for the Auraki Stream Road Retreat and this month we met for to further discuss the work programme.

We’re hoping to start work here in October.

Te Oreore Underslip

Stabilisation work is ongoing at Te Oreore. We’re now working with iwi to plan for future construction of the reinstatement solution.

Last week we detected a small slump in the road around 800 metres north of Te Oreore site, close to the rest area. There is some minor cracking, but the road remains open at normal operating speeds. We’ve conducted a site assessment and we’ll continue to monitor the location.

Temporary traffic light safety

Please continue to stop for red lights at all temporary traffic lights on State Highway 4. These lights are in place for the safety of all motorists as well as that of our work crews.

While many of these traffic lights are currently on a timer system, some will soon be moving to a sensor system. But either way, it’s important that everyone remains patient and follows the traffic light signals.
