A Poisonous Tree for Christmas

PASTOR'S BLOG

A few days ago the Wild family—Mom and Dad and their two children—living on the Western Cape of South Africa were decorating their Christmas tree, a familiar holiday ritual. With the last ornament tucked onto a lighted branch, they all stepped back (you know the drill) to admire their blinking, glittering Yuletide creation. The requisite chorus of oohs and ahhs declared a job well done! Except that Mother noticed the two pet cats, for some strange reason, also apparently admiring the tree.

Celebrating His Birth at His Cross

December 18  •  9:00 & 11:45 AM

For the first time, Pioneer will commemorate both the birth of our Lord and the death of our Savior on the same Sabbath. Why haven’t we done it before? After all, at the manger and the cross is where God’s infinite sacrifice to save His earth children comes most keenly into focus. “Come and worship” indeed!

But because the pandemic still lingers in our new not-normal normal, Pioneer will once again sponsor a two-phase Lord's Supper commemoration.

This Friday evening (December 17) we invite families, friends, students, acquaintances to gather together to celebrate Jesus' own example of foot washing. “‘Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you’” (John 13:14-15). Let it be a blessed beginning to a beautiful Sabbath experience.

Then Sabbath morning (December 18) in both celebrations (9:00 AM/11:45 AM), surrounded by the sights and sounds of Christmas, let's gather around the Lord’s Table to relive the deep significance of Jesus' sacrifice for our salvation. “Peace on Earth All Over Again—Redux 2.”

Once again, we will have sealed communion emblems for either in-sanctuary or in-home worship. The in-home emblem packets will be available for pickup at the church office tomorrow (Thursday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM) and on Friday (9:00 AM - Noon).

Let’s gather for a poignant Sabbath at the feet of Him who was the Christ Child and is now and forever our Savior of the World.

Offering for December 18, 2021

Pioneer Operating Budget

The Lord called Joseph and Mary to the responsibility of raising the Messiah who would take away the sins of the world. They were poor. They had no resources. They didn’t know where their next journey would take them. But they trusted God. They knew God was guiding their lives one step at a time. God has a way of touching the hearts of people from all walks of life.
