Aotearoa shifted to “Phase 3” of the Omicron response last Thursday, 24 February, in response to the massive spike of new cases and hospitalisations. As case numbers rise, Phase 3 is intended to help reduce the strain on the health care system. Testing Under Phase 3 During Phase 3, Rapid Antigen Testing (RATs) are being used to diagnose COVID-19. To keep essential workforces active, critical workers will need to provide a negative test result to return to work. Contacts and Contact Tracing Positive cases will be notified by text and will be spoken to on the phone if necessary. Positive cases will be directed to use an online self-investigation tool (available through MyCovidRecord or the Ministry of Health website) that focuses on higher-risk exposure. Contacts will be notified automatically using the online self-investigation tool, or with the option for people to notify contacts themselves. Last Friday's Covid Pānui/Email Please refer to the email sent last Friday, for more information on how to manage cases in Kōhanga Reo, closures, RATs Close Contact Exemption Scheme, and more.
